They're still pissed at TB for not taking Peters who could (or could not) be a shutdown corner. That's the funny thing about evaluating draft picks 5 seconds after they got selected. It's the epitome of a knee-jerk reaction. Yet the so-called draft experts continue to do it year after year, and are wrong 90% of the time.

Yup. The 49ers 2012 draft was supposed to be great and the Seahawks 2012 draft was supposed to be awful.

I'm gonna laugh when they don't start him. When was the last time our 1st round pick started?? Even when Aldon was tearing it up as the pass rusher we desperately needed at the time he still didnt start till his 2nd yr. What makes y'all think you're gonna see the Buckner - Armstead dou this yr?

Because Buckner is more polished and game ready than any 1st rounder the 49ers have drafted since Patrick Willis. He knows the style of defense, he is a perfect scheme fit.

What reason do you have to believe that he wont start?

But none of that is really applicable. Different coaching staff, different players......I havent seen any real argument as to why he wouldnt start beyond "well Aldon Smith didnt start."



Aldon didnt play all three downs because they didnt trust him against the run. He was also far more raw, having started about half the games that Buckner did.


Buckner is a much more game ready prospect. He is coming out as a senior, highly experienced, capable agaibst both the passand the run.

He has already played under the current coach and his role would be basically the same as it was in college. No reason to not expect him to be a starter while Dial gets bumped to NT or a rotational role.

Exactly. He has experience in literally this same defense with a Dlinemen coach he's worked with already. Aldon was changing positions his rookie year.

And I see no reason to believe that. Buckner is a much better prospect than Armstead was a year ago. Its not like the 49ers have any stellar talent to keep him on the bench. TJE is a backup, always has been and I don't see Dial being able to hold off Buckner who is outstanding as a run defender but also brings a pass rush element.

Anything is possible but with his familiarity with the scheme Kelly runs, with the coaching staff, with Armstead, I don't see him being in a situation typical for most rookies and I hope he takes advantage of that. Buckner not being a starter Week 1 would be somewhat of a disappointment imo. Just as I expected Patrick Willis to start from Day 1, Buckner should start at DE from Day 1 and never look back.
