I watched the clip (and edited my post).

I'm not sure JD is correctly applying what the CBA says to his analysis of the situation. An example: there doesn't seem to be any situation in which the 49ers would be able to recoup his entire 23m dollar signing bonus (though they would be able to recoup a significant percentage of it if he were to remain on the left squad/reserve list for the next 3 years). From the CBA:

'Maximum Forfeitable Salary. Under this Section, and without limitation, under no circumstances may a player be required to forfeit more than 100% of his Forfeitable Salary Allocations for each League Year in which he commits a Forfeitable Breach. With respect to roster bonus, option bonus and reporting bonus, a forfeiture may only occur if the Forfeitable Breach occurs in the same League Year in which the bonus is scheduled to be earned.'

Another example: In the video JD mentioned if Aiyuk misses the preseason the 49ers would be able to go after 25 percent of his signing bonus (5m). This is misstated. They would be able to go after a portion of the prorated bonus amount for this league year, not the total bonus… which is a much smaller number.

I explained it in rhe video posted, but not really. That woukd give the 49ers just as much leverage. If he doesnt show up, that gives them more evidence to hold him in breach of contract.

I also mentioned in the video - the 49ers can send a letter of demand to the NFLPA for full forfeiture of his 23m signing bonus. It goes to a 3rd party arbitrator and if approved, will return the signing bonus.

Getting the salary cap back and the actually money back are 2 different things. They dont have to receive payment back from BA to get the cap space back. Once hes found in full breach of contract, the full 23m in signing bonus will be credited back at the end of this season. Then, we'll cut him after the arbitration is resolved and we owe no dead cap and receive the 10m in credits back.

*ok, I made it through the video, and you cited article 4 section 9 of the CBA. Really think you're misreading it*

You would think all (or a lot) the 49ers media covered the Chargers for their jobs with how they reported they got their ass totally handed to em in this joint practice. I'm sure some of their analysis isn't completely objective or that accurate tbh, even a practice wouldn't be that damn lopsided. They make it sound like if it was a game the Chargers would've won 59-6, or some s**t.

This is a Chargers beat reporter. I thought he did a good job adding context to point out when plays likely would've been dead or at least affected

I would've liked our corners to match up better even in vanilla based looks(knowing we're not likely to show our hand to a team we'll be playing this season) or have our guys on offense beat their defense more often BUT a lot of those big plays everyone was hyping up wouldn't have looked as impressive in a real game.

Hate to bring up the Rams winning a SB in here but it helps with the extreme analogy. The play the Rams won their SB on would've been a TD play to Jamarr Chase in a joint practice setting.

I strongly suspect most organizations are viewing this as a business matter rather than a competitiveness issue. It would be extremely dangerous to allow behavior like this to establish a precedent. It's not about football, it's about tens of millions of dollars and breach of contract.

I'd question the intelligence of any owner who isn't fully behind the Niners winning on all fronts in this case, including the cap question.

If I were in BA's shoes, I'd have trouble sleeping. The thought of having that bonus money taken away would drive peak anxiety. You can be sure he's spent more of it than was wise.

I don't see how Martin wins the Sam spot. Dugger gives Morris much more front versatility with his size, length and strength. He's athletic enough to play as a true stack LB in a 4-3, but he can also slide down to the end of the line of scrimmage and play as the force player in a true 5-man front. Martin can't really do that. He's essentially limited to being a stack LB, and I'm not sure he's a particularly good one. Dugger also projects to match up well against tight ends, which is especially important given the matchups the 49ers will have with the Rams. I just don't see Martin being much more than a backup on this team.

If Dugger plays well tomorrow, the 49ers should call Bob and see if he wants Nick Martin back. I'm sure Bob played a big role in drafting him given how much leeway the coordinators and coaches have in draft decisions. It's looking like another massive reach in the 3rd rounder that will likely amount to very little.

If Black isn't RB2, the 49ers have a serious f**king issue on their hand with yet another 3rd-round pick wasting away. He needs to be on the field and be good.

Crazy how much that affected Aiyuk. Something that I noticed in the after math that I don't think anyone mentioned was Aiyuk quoting Daniels "You're on my team now, you follow my rules" it definitely sounds and looks like Aiyuk had it all lined up to go to Washington but couldn't stay off social media or do the basic process to be reinstated. It's starting to come off as cowardly at this point

This isn't the Sam Darnold thread. Bringing up Purdy's ranking doesn't mean this is a conversation for this thread.

Sam Darnold being 21st on this list is a crime. He f**king sucks and the only thing hes better than Purdy is getting mono..

Mono boy... tfoh

I mean he led Seattle to ring while having a great season. I don't see the issue with it.

The top 100 is voted on before the playoffs, so the Super Bowl wasn't a factor. Purdy also missed half the season, so that he was ranked at all is a bit of a surprise.
