And I see no reason to believe that. Buckner is a much better prospect than Armstead was a year ago. Its not like the 49ers have any stellar talent to keep him on the bench. TJE is a backup, always has been and I don't see Dial being able to hold off Buckner who is outstanding as a run defender but also brings a pass rush element.
Anything is possible but with his familiarity with the scheme Kelly runs, with the coaching staff, with Armstead, I don't see him being in a situation typical for most rookies and I hope he takes advantage of that. Buckner not being a starter Week 1 would be somewhat of a disappointment imo. Just as I expected Patrick Willis to start from Day 1, Buckner should start at DE from Day 1 and never look back.
In the last the team has seemed concerned about endurance, strength and experience when it comes to getting defensive lineman in the game. Buckner was one of the most used college players last year so endurance is a check. By all accounts he does not need to bulk up much. His experience in the same defense as is being implemented here may alleviate concerns re: experience. I guess we'll see, but Buckner seems like hes about as game ready a college defensive line as you're going to get.
i wonder if they'll rotate him in early on in the season to get his feet wet with him eventually starting.

Just curious. And I'm too tired and lazy to look. Anyone checked a Seahawks, cards, or Rams message board to see what their fans think of this pick? Happy we took him? Worried? We talk about who they pick up. Just curious what other side thinks.

He was ranked by many experts as a top 3 player in this draft, so getting him at 7 is hard to dislike for anybody.

OTC, a few pages back you gave the nod to TJE over Purcell....how so? It seemed when tomsul finally put Purcell in, he was making tackles or pressuring , right and left. He shoulda had way more PT than he got....but that was tomsul, so....

He goes for a ride against double teams. Need to sit his ass down and not surrender a HUGE running lane.

.NET Nation trying to call him as overrated as they can get away with, as usual.

Reid, Ward, Armstead, all look to be part of a future core group to make another playoff run. Ward came on strong late last season and looked very good. Armstead should be a fulltime starter this year. Reid has been the best safety out of his draft class and a starter from Day 1.

He writes something negative then runs away when someone actually post something with actual facts....really no point in commenting on his posts.

Do you even pop tartt bruh?
The three you mentioned. Buckner, and wiliams, if he ever gets and stays healthy. could mean huge things for our d. A solid core. And we have a million young cb's with a lot of promise, Some solid rotational d line players. Our d is ready just needs a coach imo.

Did Buckner graduate early? I ask cause, we always have problems with drafting Oregon players as that school graduates late and NFL rules state they can't practice with teams unless their school graduates. They can go to rookie camp and I think OTAs but not TC.
That was a problem for Arik, he had to sit and couldn't get any reps. That probably set him back some. With a full off season and the strides Arik made last year and teaming with a more polished Buckner, If those two get together that is going to be a good cohesion.
