Why is he not good? What is he so horrible at? He's not an all-pro but he does his job and wasn't a liability at all. Could they do better? Sure. He's fair from "not good" though.

Tartt is an above average Safety. However, I think the squad is looking to see what they have in developmental guys. He's very injury prone to eat a roster position.

As for the Saints signing... that was paying for history, and I'm not sure he remotely lives up to that contract. It was expensive. A team can only throw larger money at so many players.

And their QB is Jameis Winston. Feels like at this point they are terrified of rebuilding.

Agree with the take on Jason - high end talent on a low cost budget is low risk. As for Tartt, depends on the contract. It's telling he hasn't received offers from other teams... I'm somewhat content to roll with the players on the roster, drafted, and signed post draft. Let's see what the team has in them.

Unless you're a young elite S the market has been pretty poor for that position in FA. Something like 20 S signed this yr we're for no more than 1yr $2M. Jayron Kearse who was one of the better coverage S this yr signed for what was basically a 1yr $5M deal.

Tartt was never gonna get big money. IMO tartt is a "safe" safety for SF. He knows the scheme, can do whatever you want and rarely messes up. That's all I'm looking for right now.

Saints are a poorly run club. I would hate my team to be doing this annual stupid salary cap dance. I would hate to see the huge looming cap hits kicked down the road.

They've lost real players like Armstead, Williams and Hendrickson.

They have the 6th most dead money in the NFL at $29 million. We have only $5 mil in dead money. So they are around 6 times as much in dead money as us. We rank 29th in dead money which means we are very well run.

Exactly this. They lose several key players including one of their best lineman and people are bragging about them getting an overpriced safety.

I guess if all you want is to be "competitive" to have guys like tartt who can never quite make game changing plays but is average. then thats fine,

ok.. we went from win now. to lets just be competitive.. lets be safe. we got a game changer qb just so we can be competitive.. jesus. if that is all you people want. then just keep jimmy. safe. competitive. i get it... less pressure.. no fun having lofty goals like winning divisions. and gulp.. actually winning super bowls.. tartt has become the new poster child for expectations this year to some.... safe

Dude spare me the "competitive" stuff… I want guys like Trent Williams, Kittle, Deebo, Lance, Fred Warner, Bosa, armstead, Ward/Ward etc. you can't have pro-bowl highly paid guys at every single position.

tartt does a lot of the dirty work and sorry those dudes are just as important to the whole team. Quit being so disrespectful dude. I get it, you look at the stat and make a decision on a player. He's far from not good and does way more good things than bad things.

pretty glaring hole.. tartt has underwhelmed his entire career.. its like if mack retires . the answer is to bring back kilgore. but its fine.. i have already agreed with you. its good to be competitive and to make safe choices . so relax

please explain what Tartt does wrong from a scheme standpoint? Don't give me random stats, what is he bad at?

not a single person said anything about Kilgore. Tartt is not Kilgore lol.

all I'm saying is you can't go high end elite at every position.

Damn, so true. Weird too. Lol. I guess this wasn't a great year to do it given the QB class. But the way they're set up they won't be in range of the top QBs next year

Boo hoo we didn't sign a 10 million dollar a year, 30 year old free safety to play Strong Safety.

Did he get $10M a yr? Yeah, no thanks, I'm good with what we have.

Agreed 100%. Let the Saints pay him that much. Niners have one very good S in Ward...let the other guys battle it out for the second S position. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Hufanga takes it.

In a league that values speed in the wide outs. we counter with a slow safety. brilliant

The Saints signed a very expensive safety? I thought that they were over the cap by $100 million. lo

the lame response would be.... well. they will pay for it down the road. lol

They can keep on restructuring, but this is not the way you want to manage your cap. Redoing contracts every year to be under the cap? They are already over again for 2023. Its like someone making minimum payments on bills monthly just to keep things on, late fees, etc. And on top of that, they aren't even good.

And it wouldn't matter if they were anyways because they traded away their 1st rounder next year to move up for Olave. I don't know what their long term plan is right now.

If only they put that level of analysis into other teams. I wonder if people on Rams boards had meltdowns over their linebackers last year.

I forgot they did that. Yeah, we should aspire to be the Saints.
