No matter how simple minded we try to make this game, this is still a team game and all of your weaknesses will be exposed in the playoffs.

How many SuperBowls does Quenton Nelson have?

The biggest weakness that was exposed in the playoffs was the QB not being able to throw it to the open guy. Every weakness is not equal.

and our not very good secondary in my opinion. but of course it was qb.

you missed the memo... our method of operation is now safe...... our goal is just to be competitive. nothing more

You do talk sh*t at times. The stated aim of Lynch, Shanahan and the rest is to make the team competitive and keep it competitive. Nothing to do with "nothing more". Competitive means you are up there with the top echelon, fighting year after year for the big prize. Why didn't we make any trades? It was a fairly flat draft after the top few, in the opinion of most that I have seen. For whom should we have traded? They seemed to take the view that there was little to be gained out of trading up, and we seemed to find value in the later rounds so they could very well have been right.

listen ,. i know you just do not like me and thats fine and you know what.. maybe i think you talk homer s**t around here as well to the point of you are not objective. but whatever....... i just wanted to know what fans think the mind set of the team is now.. it seems to have changed a bit.. we used to hear the phrase win now around here .. now i just see more and more the word competitive. signing players who are like tartt.,. safe. and of course we all know how lynch talks.. we are taking tepid interest, etc. i really thought i was told the entire reason we got trey was to move away from a safe qb like jimmy. get someone who can elevate the team and get us over the hump... as i read alot of comments from posters.... the mindset seems to have changed to... well lets just try to be competitive every year. if we are in that mode.. then why did we get trey.

Yup good point we rolled dice on Trey that was a big trade. I think internally they are quite bullish on Trey and hence no major need for splashy moves. TL is the splashy move and Week 1 will be quite a reveal to the league as to where he is at. This is a #3 overall D and we had rooks in the secondary last year with Dre K and Norman.

We've been down that road and we know we need an upgrade. Holding back Trey for another year is just going to delay the upgrade. Even if they start Trey, you don't want him looking over his shoulder all season. He needs to worry about defenses not Jimmy.

So, it was okay for Jimmy to be in that position last year but Lance shouldn't have to do it because, what, he's too emotionally fragile? I will gladly admit that the situation with Jimmy probably isn't what anyone expected going into the new season. If they are serious about not releasing him in the event they're unable to swing a trade somewhere then the only way this would work going forward is to have a truly open competition for the job through training camp and pre-season and let the best man win. The team would have to know that each guy was given a fair shot and that the decision was made to go with the guy who gave them the best chance to win not because of his draft status or veteran presence and relationship with the players but because he was judged by all of them to be the best guy for the job. Any other option might open the door to issues down the road. It feels like the team has kind of turned the page on Jimmy so I'm not sure they will want to go back down that road but if he's on the roster come training camp and is able to throw it seems to me they will have to let him compete. He has probably earned too much goodwill in the locker room to just be relegated to an afterthought. Time will tell I guess.

You know, the guy you would make your #1 pick in a fantasy draft of every player in the NFL.

thank you for your good thoughts and not making it personal. i may quibble with safeties but the cbs are much better than the two you mentioned. signing jason was very good,. at worse becomes the best back up we have had since perrish cox.I just want the focus to be totally on trey with no jimmy looking over his shoulder..and yes.. I am impatient.. i want this distraction off of this team sooner rather than later. i know that is easy to say in a forum./ lol

i will only very very respectfully say that keeping jimmy and changing the mode from this is treys team to ok. lets have open competition will swing the barn door open for all sorts of issues

Really really hope either Verrett shows he can stay healthy, or the rooks beat him out, which would be a good thing IMO, but please for the love of god, beat our Johnson, I'm so tired of him being on the roster, that & the $2M GTD to Sudfeld really are two of my head scratchers, along with another back in the 3rd.

No, I don't want them taking away reps from Lance, which he sorely needs, to hold a competition with Jimmy. They already know everything that Jimmy is capable of, so there is no reason to do that.

If they want to let Jimmy throw once he's healthy, then it makes sense to have him work exclusively with the 2nd group.

They don't need to publicly say Trey is the #1 QB, but internally they need to be telling Trey, that he's the guy, even with Jimmy potentially back, he does need all the snaps he can get, preseason, reg season, & practice, he needs those #1 snaps.

Verrett is like the free egg rolls some places hook you up with when you order.. a nice bonus but not really necessary and don't count on em...
