I agree with you that the best player should be on the field. And right now that person is Hill. But to insinuate that Davis is better than Smith without even seeing him throw a single pass is just mind boggling. I am not a blind Smith fan or a Smith hater. I am a 49er fan and a 49er fan only.

Let me help you,backontop,...
Right now Smith is a better option to play NFL football than Davis. In a year or two, when Davis has been trained and practiced at the NFL game,he should hopefully be our starter. HE IS THAT GOOD !!! If he flops, like smith, then we will need to go after another QB of the future because Davis is the ONLY QB on the roster who has THAT potential.
So,follow me now ,if you can, In a year or probably two years ,when hopefully Davis takes the starting job away from Hill, perhaps Alex will have progressed enough to be a reliable backup to the new starting Davis,as he hopefully has already been for Hill until that time.
So you see, Hill is better now than smith (no contest) and Davis WILL BE better ,if he fullfills his potential.
Now ,hopefully that clarified it for you . If not ,then get someone with a first grade education to read it to you and explain.,lol

Oh,and by the way backontop,
I have seen Davis throw many passes in his GREAT career at Ball State. And every time he is spoken of at camp by either Matt,he is said to have a very accurate cannon arm ,etc.
Bringing your game from college to the NFL is a big adjustment. And as we have seen with alex,it doesn't always work out as hoped. But we KNOW that Davis has better tools than Alex, now we have to wait to see if he can put those tools to work for the team and reach his potential, which is great.

See I never claimed to be an expert on Davis. Matter of fact all I have seen is his youtube highlights. If you know more about the guy then more power to you. But to just say he has better tools so he is better or going to be better is retarded. You even said it yourself sometimes things just don't work out. For all we know Davis can be another one of those unfortunate stories. I am sure we all hope that he is not, just like I am sure that all of us would rather have had Smith work out from day 1. We don't always get what we want in life. If you want to put Davis on his throne now that is on you. As for me I will wait till I can actually see him do something other than hand the ball off.

Alex Smith is gaining his confidence and getting back in the grove, practice by practice, pre-season game by pre-season game

This thread is just as pointless as all the Crabtree threads. After Saturday this thread will be locked because there will be no more QB competition.

even if it gets locked another 10000 will pop up stating that Smith is a bust bla bla bla and Hill is the savior of the franchise.

backontop: I actually was hoping the Niners would draft Davis in the 3rd round. He would have been a 1st round pick except that the word got out that he has Dyslexia and just about the same time he had two poor games at the end of the college season. They were I believe 12-0 and Davis was being talked about as a early 1st round pick or at least a 2nd rounder, but then he got really sick before his 2nd to last game and he sucked it up and tried to play anyway(because he carried the team almost entirely on his shoulders alone) but he played poorly and they lost their 1st game. Then in their bowl game Davis has his first poor game of the year (when healthy) and worries that he played poorly in the biggest pressure game of his life helped him drop out of the 1st round (along with the Dyslexia hysteria).
At least 6 months before the draft I was hoping the Niners would draft this stud as out QB of the future. I was deleriously happy when we hit the jackpot and got him in the 5th round ,because of the Dyslexia rumors etc).
He is very accurate and has the quickest release possible and throws rockets with a beautiful over the top motion and is a scrambler and runner and a great team leader. What more could you ask, except that he bring all of that to the NFL field? Hopefully for all of us fans,he does just that and in 2010 or 11 he is our starting QB.

I wonder if he should hold out because he was "supposed" to be drafted in the 1rst round
Sorry had to take a stab at crabtree
Well as always I am a 49er fan and will root for who ever is supposed to bring us to victory in the big game. If that is Hill, Smith, Davis or Rumplestilskin(made up name for those who are thinking who the fack is that)

Good one backontop ,LOL !!!
Hopefully Davis will be throwing dozens of TD's to Crabtree in a couple of years and we will have forgotten all about the holdout and all about any QB competition.

Give me a break....32 career starts? You can't even look up stats normally? He had 30 career STARTS. And the only normal year he did well as the qb. His rookie year shouldn't even be considered just like the games he played after coming back with a bum shoulder. Peyton Manning wouldn't have been much better with that injury and that offensive coordinator. If you can't understand the circumstances around those games then you're a lost cause.
Alex Smith may never live up to #1 pick status but to say he's done at this point is just stupid and blind hate for the kid when Nolan did nothing to help him.
Man - all you guys do is make excuses... And I apologize for overestimating the number of career starts for Smith - Im such an idiot!!!!!
