San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters during a conference call on Monday, one day after the team's 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Here's everything he said.

Opening comments:
"The injuries from the game. [WR] Mike Evans had ribs. We'll have to evaluate him throughout the week. Really, all three of these guys are kind of in the same boat. [T] Trent Williams, stinger/neck, should be good to go by Thursday. We've just got to keep evaluating him. [LB Dre] Greenlaw had a quad contusion. We'll have to manage him throughout the week also."
That implies with Mike Evans that this isn't any sort of long-term injury? You guys are confident that he'll be back shortly?
"Yeah, it shouldn't be long-term. We've got to see how it goes throughout the week. Guys have been in this position before, so we'll see how it goes."
How did you feel about how WR Jordan Watkins stepped in and played?
"I felt really good with him. He had a real good week of practice, seemed very ready for going into the game, and he got those two opportunities on two pass plays that he did a really good job on. Two really good routes and caught it real firm and ran good with the ball after. And I thought he played solid in the run game and throughout the rest of the game."
Yesterday there was a question about whether it was a rib or an oblique for Evans. Any clarity on that?
"Yeah, rib."
Is it broken?
"That's about as much as I know. Just rib."
He has a rib?
"It's a rib issue. We all have ribs (laughter). I hear what you're saying, but just going to keep it with just ribs."
Were you hoping to still get DL Mykel Williams back to practice this week? What's the plan for him right now?
"Yeah, we're going to open his practice window on Wednesday."
What are you hoping to see out of DL Matthew Judon as he comes in to help out that defensive line unit and how fast can he get on board with his position of nature?
"I know we had a workout with him over the weekend, so just to really get him in with the group on Wednesday, see where he's at. Starting him out in individual drills, just seeing the type of shape and stuff he's in, what he can learn in the scheme. Obviously, with our situation, hopefully we'll get him caught up here real fast and hopefully he'll be an option to help us."
How did you feel like your young defensive linemen were out there? A lot of guys with not too much experience.
"By no means was it perfect, but I was real proud of how they played. They really competed their asses off. They were running to the ball, working real hard. I thought they did a good job throughout the game. I think they all kind of died out a little bit as the game went, just getting those plays up into the 80s and then losing [DL] Gracen [Halton] to the cramps and stuff, which just took the numbers down some. But, we were able to change up our fronts throughout the game. We asked a lot of them and considering the circumstances for them, I thought it was a real successful game for them."
There was a play early in the game where QB Brock Purdy threw off one foot jumping out of bounds to TE Luke Farrell and it was ruled out of bounds. How close did you think that was? What did you think of that play when you watched it on the tape?
"About as close as I thought it was live. I didn't think it was that close at first, but then they showed one up on the scoreboard at the last second that I thought was paused perfectly that looked like he got his knee in bounds right when he was starting to catch the ball. It was so frame-for-frame whether it was fully in or out. I actually think it was in, but I don't know if they would have overturned it. However they would have called that, I think they would have stayed with it because it just seemed so close. But, ended up being a hell of a throw and it was a hell of a job that we can even have considered that he got in. But, I feel like he did."
I know you can't allow yourself to think this way on a play like that just because it is such a ridiculous throw by Brock, do you almost want to challenge it just because you feel like that should go down as a completion?
"Yeah, kind of. But, it also has to do that I think it would have been like a 30-yard gain too, so those are hard to come by also. But, it was a little bit early and we thought it was no way at first, but definitely started to doubt ourselves on that towards the end. It was a hell of a play by those guys."
Do you have any update on DL Nick Bosa and DL Romello Height and DL James Thompson Jr.?
"Yeah. Height, hopefully we'll get him back this week. Expected to practice this week. Thompson and Nick, they won't play this week. That's all I've got on them."
Not sure if you've looked at any of the Denver tape yet, but Denver Broncos S Talanoa Hufanga had two interceptions, one for a pick-six. Does knowing him and what he can do help you in your planning and preparation for the Denver defense?
"It definitely helps me that I haven't turned on the tape yet and I already kind of have an idea how he's going to look. Huff's a ballhawk. He flies around. He's a hell of a player. I've got nothing but love for Huff, so I was real excited seeing those things happen last night, obviously, and we've got our work cut out to make sure that they don't happen this week."
Going back to Brock and Mike Evans, the fact that Mike Evans didn't even turn around for the touchdown reception and not indicating that the ball was even on its way, how impressed are you with that pass and catch and just what Mike Evans can do on the field?
"I was very impressed. It was a sluggo route and throwing a sluggo route on the 23-yard line, sometimes you just run out of room. Especially to the field, to throw the ball down there. It's hard to hit him in stride because you have to throw it out of the back of the endzone. He ended up having to run a faster route just the way the corner played it. Brock was a little bit behind the play. So, I thought it was a hell of a throw, Brock just rifling it in, not putting much air under it so it could catch back up to Mike. The DB may have had a small chance to get his hands up right before, but when Mike puts his hands up at the last possible second, just calling them late hands, then the DB never reacts. Mike didn't even seem to move on the play and the ball just stuck in there and it was a really great play by both of them."
You've mentioned a few times that you don't feel like WR Deebo Samuel Sr. is any different from the guy that was here before, but after the game yesterday, Deebo made a comment about showing the speed that people think he doesn't have anymore. Have you noticed any additional motivation in Deebo coming back with maybe just something to prove thinking that people were kind of believing he was on the downside of his career when he got back?
"Yeah, I totally get that because for us to get him back, for us to get him how we did, for him to be available this late and things like that, that's definitely I think going to put a chip on his shoulder. When that stuff happens, people say you're descending. So, I'm sure Deebo wants to prove that. Quickly when we saw him, we watched him on tape, we didn't feel like he was descending. When Deebo did get the ball and he was in certain situations, you can always see that talent. He had it at the beginning of camp here. I think you see it the most when that ball's in his hand and he gets a chance to run. Deebo is as fast as anybody at his size that I've been around. And he still has that."
Both RB Christian McCaffrey and TE George Kittle have talked about how Deebo seems to be working harder than he's ever worked and is in better shape than he's ever been. Would you agree with those opinions?
"I think Deebo's been in great shape a lot. I think where Deebo's gotten in trouble is when he's gotten injured during the year and how hard it is to stay in shape when you're injured like that. But, I've seen Deebo come in like this before a number of years. But, I also don't want to say they're totally wrong in that. I think Deebo, just as all these guys as they get older too, it's not just being in shape, but it's also sleeping right, it's eating right, it's the type of conditioning you do on your own, not just on the football field and things like that. And I think Deebo, going into whatever year it is for him now, I think he has a very consistent routine. The more you have a consistent routine, I just believe the easier it is to stick with. I think that's where I'd say that you would notice the maturing in that way the most."
Did you do any digging on why K Eddy Piñeiro is missing extra points?
"I didn't do any digging, so I'm not sure exactly why it's happening. But, it was a big-time kick that I thought was huge, gave us a chance to lap them in the third quarter when he hit that 57-yarder. But, obviously we can't miss those extra points. That's what gave them a chance to be there in the game at the end. He's got to get that cleaned up."
