More like thank god Sing is preaching no turnovers allowed. I couldn't take watching another season like last year.

JTO has enough turnovers after 7 games to make 4 minute youtube videos (and still have turnovers left over), and people will still pine for the guy. Yet they can completely write off Alex after one game. It truly astonishes me. Why people just can't let the story unfold, I will never know. Instead they yell at the screen, while the show is still going.

Singletary closed the door on Just Turn Overs (thank God), he hasn't done so on Alex Smith, why not see what happens before writing obituaries?

Im actually writing smith off after 32 career starts... and pasting a youtube clip of all of his turnovers doesnt refute anything I said as I admitted he has serious problems hanging onto the ball, but those problems are more easily correctable than Smith acting like a scared turtle in the pocket whenever there is any semblance of a rush..

Give me a break....32 career starts? You can't even look up stats normally? He had 30 career STARTS. And the only normal year he did well as the qb. His rookie year shouldn't even be considered just like the games he played after coming back with a bum shoulder. Peyton Manning wouldn't have been much better with that injury and that offensive coordinator. If you can't understand the circumstances around those games then you're a lost cause.

Alex Smith may never live up to #1 pick status but to say he's done at this point is just stupid and blind hate for the kid when Nolan did nothing to help him.

All in all, JTO was required to run Martz offense with the 7 step drops and trusting the way the play was designed. If you take a look at the last preseason game last year when Alex Smith really let it go to try and comply with that offense, he threw 2 INTs.

You cannot deny JTO's physical abilities to throw the ball. Isn't that the main reason why Alex Smith is still competing for a starting job, because he has ALL of the physical skills. I think Martz hurt JTO more than anything.

However, most of those highlights had JTO getting hit from behind a lot and he HAS to sense this and hold onto the ball. I think his small hands would not have been corrected but his throwing could have been above average.

Oh, you mean the last game he played before he went on injured reserve with a busted shoulder? The game he completed 12 of 17 passes for 70.6%? The one where he threw one touchdown? That game?

Your hatred for Smith is comical.

My point wasn't about Alex Smith. It was about Martz's offense. It requires blind faith of everything being perfect. It requires what happens on the field to match the whiteboard to the tee. It's a high risk offense and had to be extremely dumbed down and safe when Singletary took over. For some reason, Martz hung JTO out to dry rather than putting him in a position to succeed.

what are JTOs flaws and Alex's flaws

list them and explain why JTO's are more correctable

JTO's main issue is turning the ball over (hence the nickname Just Turn-overs... clever I must admit). IMO, it is typically easier to teach an overly agressive player to lay off the gas than it is to get a hesitant player to step on the gas, as is the issue with Alex.

I personally think that simply getting O'Sullivan away from Martz and out of that high risk / high reward type of offense would have a significant and positive effect on him. Beyond that, he just needs to be taught to take that extra split second before delivering the ball to look for that defender that he has been missing, and then make a decision on where to go with the ball.

Alex on the otherhand, seems to be almost shell-shocked and has been held hostage by his fear of turning the ball over to the point where he just cant cut it loose until he sees an open receiver and a clear throwing lane. As Urban Meyer accurately predicted, he has basically been non-functional on the field to this point in his career...

And while most people point to the constant changes in offensive coordinator as the reason for this, one could refute that he is now entering his 4th season with the vertical passing / digit system - while the playcalling from OC to OC definately changes, the overall package of plays and terminology more or less has remained the same.

Just had to respond to a question - now im done... apologies.

Great post, I agree with everything you said here.

As almost all unbiased observers have know all along,Hill is much better than Alex and has won the starting job that was already his.
Alex should concentrate on getting better so that he can climb up to the level of a decent backup QB in the NFL. Right now Huard is much better than Alex and much more seasoned and reliable.
Hopefully Alex will have a great game this weekend and continue to work hard and someday he can actually earn the backup spot to Hill and then maybe to Davis. Anything further he acomplishes in his career is unexpected and welcome. But right now,as we expected,Hill won the so called competition in a walk and by a mile.
Go Niners ! ( that includes Smith and all the other players on the roster ,I am a fan of the team and not just one player and don't want smith to do poorly, just because I wanted Hill to be the starter ,as he so overwealmingly deserved).

Huard and Davis better than Smith Davis hasn't even thrown a pass in the NFL yet and you are already claiming he is better than Smith Smith doesn't need to improve to become a decent back up. He is probably one of the best back ups in the league. He needs to keep improving to re-earn his starting position that he was drafted for.

If you would actually read what I wrote you would see that I did NOT say Davis IS better than Smith. But since you bring it up,Davis has much much much more talent than Smith. He is better in every way.But he is raw and will take at least a year before he is ready to step confidently on an NFL fiels. Smith still cannot step confidently on an NFL fiels because he is just a pretty bad player. Hopefully he improves and gets good enough to shine Huard's shoes (LOL,just kidding).
It is obvious for all who actually jknow anything and actually watch the games ,that Huard is much more seasoned and reliable and plays football better than Smith,by far. But smith is young and might surprise in the long run. Huard is too old to be around long. So Scotty is hoping smith will finallt have the light go on in his head and he MIGHT become at least a medioce NFL caliber backup. Anything else is just hope.
And as for Davis, you are obviously ignorant about him. He has everything anyone could ask for in tools to become a great one. Of course he must prove it on the field,we will see,as we have seen with smith, that either he will continue and reach his potential or he will faulter and not become what was hoped for (like smith).
But of course it is an undisputed fact that Davis is the only QB on the roster who has the potential to become the Franchise QB of the future. Hopefully for all of us fans,he comes through.

Look again bud,
In that first post I never said Davis IS better than Smith NOW. He is much more talented with many more tools to work with. But right now Smith is a much better option as the 3rd stringer than davis. Smith is a better option in games NOW,but certainly should not be for very long. (unless Davis flops like smith has ).

Hopefully for all of us,Davis will become all he can be. If he does he will be better than Hill or Smith or Huard,by a long ways.
Right now it is obvious to anyone who knows anything about football, that Hill is the best player and then Huard and then Smith and not even in the running is Davis, the prospect for the future. So,we have a solid NFL caliber QB in Hill and a solid reliable ,veteran backup in Huard and an awkward, stumbling, almost bust and maybe full bust as the 3rd best option on the roster.
As I said,we ALL better hope Hill keeps up the good play and we ALL better hope that Davis lives up to his great potential.
Unless you are JUST a Smith fan and don't care about the team?

lets think logically here. If you claim that Smith needs to improve to become a back up to Davis that would mean that you are thinking that Davis is better than Smith at this point right now. You don't need to say it word for word.

...And by the way,I am also a Smith fan and hope he does very well. (Because he is on MY team ). But I want the best players on the field and am not delusional enough to want Smith on the field, over better players, ,just because I like him.
Smith is a class kid and hopefully one day in the future he can get himself out of his tailspin and start playing much better(if not for us then another team ?). That will be good for smith and great for the team and the fans.
