There is absolutely zero evidence in the world to support your opinion that a 15 year vet would not have been able to captain this team to a .500 record.

You can pretend your opinion is factual but it is still just an opinion. An extremely poor one.

Johnson is a 15 year vet with 10 career starts. 2 in the last 4 years. He has never at any point in his career shown to be a reliable starting quarterback in this league. His extremely limited play time, across many different teams, and what he's shown in that play time, should tell you that he couldn't quarterback any team to a .500 record.

Nah, it's poor because you disagree with it. We played with THREE different QBs this year, the 3rd being a rookie who was drafted dead last. Our team simply isn't built around the QB. It's the TRUTH. This team won the NFCCG throwing the ball only 8 times. It's FAR more likely that JJ gets to .500 than not. Sorry that hurts your narrative, but that's how it goes.

For a team not built around the QB we sure keep investing in QBs like mad. Three firsts for one, $137,000,000 for the other. Lil irony that Mr Irrelevant appeared to be the answer. I do agree going forward, we shouldn't hit the draft so hard, tough pill to spend three ones and get no ROI 2 years in and 2 champ game appearances. Lot of ways we could have spent those three ones to get us over the line last year or 2021.

First of all you can backtrack to what you think is likely, but you made a definitive statement that this team would be .500 with him as the starter and then doubled down by claiming that statement was factual.

Of course I disagree with your opinion because all available evidence says it's ridiculous. Josh Johnson has never had any success in this league and has never played the position at a level worthy of being a 2nd option, let alone a starter.

You referencing players' draft positions, such as Purdy being a 7th rounder, has no actual bearing on what a completely different player would do in the same opportunity. If you think Purdy would still be drafted last in a hypothetical re-draft, given what we saw from him on an individual level, you are very obviously mistaken.

There's no evidence to suggest Josh Johnson as an individual player could be a successful starting QB in any situation.

Again, I was responding to a poster who said this team would be a .500 team with Josh Johnson at QB. He's still going with it too. Maybe read a couple posts involved in the conversation before assuming where the conversation started.

I had seen that. Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans, Tennessee, Cleveland, Jets all won 7 games this past season.

It's not that difficult to win 8 games in this league - especially in NFC which is really weak right now. With our roster - and if Josh Johnson had a full offseason of practice - I can see us win some games. I am not saying we will for sure - but it's possible. Our team is way better than all those 7 win teams and we have a better coach. Our division isn't all that great either right now.

But, doesn't matter - Josh Johnson is not going to be the starting QB. It's likely gonna be Trey or Purdy and I am quite happy with that group and whatever we add BEHIND them.

Right, and the fact Mr Irrelevant was somehow able to accomplish what no other player in the history of the league has supports that fact. Throwing the ball only 8 times in the NFCCG and winning supports that fact. How many times did you hear people laughingly say they could play QB for the Niners this year because of our roster? I did a ton. Now that certainly isn't true, but it's a stacked roster that most QBs would be better on than anywhere else, because it's not QB centric.

Yeah, you have a serious reading comprehension issue. Of course "as an individual" he wouldn't be that successful. That was the point of the entire post, homie. On THIS team, he wouldn't be playing as an individual. At any rate, coach disagrees with whether or not he'd be successful, otherwise he wouldn't have signed him. Ive laid out the reasons to support my opinion, while you just argue with no reasoning. That's it for me, I know you relish arguing for the sake of it, but I personally can't stand posts like that.

The expectations are real, next season this should be a playoff team, this should be a SB contender. Nothing less is going to be acceptable.

If Lance plays up to that level, great, if he struggles and the team struggles as a result, that's going to land on Shanahan, particularly if he did nothing else to address the position.

What do you think is gonna happen to Kyle?

A man that's been in three of the last four NFCCG and a Super Bowl?

Cmon man! Kyle has all the leverage to do what he wants

2023 is the perfect year to find out what we have in Lance. Purdy is hurt - we have our 1st rd pick in 2024 - and we have a roster good enough to win bunch of games with slightly above QB play.

I don't think we can go another year with Lance on the roster and not willing to find out what we have with him. Now, if Purdy is back in June and looks like himself - that's a diff story. But, if Purdy is coming back in and practicing for the first time August/Sept - then we need to see what we have in Lance.

Same arguments were used in 2021 draft on why we shouldn't draft Lance. Shanahan did. Same arguments were made last offseason on why we shouldn't make Lance the starter. Shanahan did.

If Shanahan is making crucial decisions for this franchise based on how acceptable they're to the fanbase - then he's the wrong person to make those decisions.
Let's strive for slightly above average QB play on a championship roster if that's the goal should've stuck with Jimmy and saved the draft picks.

Of course - I think Lance can be a top 5 QB in the league and can be at least above average QB at the beginning of 2023 season with CMC and Kittle playing alongside him. my point was - we won't be throwing away a season if Lance started 2023. I think we can win a bunch of games with him at QB early on bc of the roster we have.
I'm more concerned with this season than what Trey may be in the future I don't see top 5 in his future but I'll gladly eat a huge helping of crow if that ends up being the case as for this season if Bradys an option you pull the trigger you can't count on above average being good enough Trey will still have plenty of time to prove his worth.

Getting Brady really makes no sense. You'll have to pay him 20-25M a year minimum and even if you do some cap magic - cap hit will be 8-10M this year. We need to address starting RT, a starting C, starting slot CB, starting FS, starting DL (next to Arik). We need to re-sign bunch of our players including Bosa and Aiyuk.

If we go after Brady - our roster will be significantly weaker than it was this past year and we won't be able to address most (if any) of our weaknesses.

Our OL & DL got s**t pushed in against Philly. We are not beating them in 2023 if we don't address our lines.

That was a good read, thanks! I love our QB room, both Trey and Brock. I haven't felt this way since Joe and Steve

Yeah I'm pretty sure BCB wants to make sure he has a functional throwing arm first.
