The San Francisco 49ers have officially announced the signing of wide receiver Dante Pettis to their practice squad. NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported the move on Tuesday.
The signing comes as the 49ers navigate injuries that have thinned their wide receiver depth. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, while others like De'Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson are dealing with injuries. Mike Evans is also dealing with a rib issue this week.
Pettis provides the 49ers with additional depth at wide receiver while the team waits for its injured players to return.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Pettis (6-1, 195) was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (44th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his seven-year NFL career with the 49ers (2018-20), New York Giants (2020-21), Chicago Bears (2022), New Orleans Saints (2024-25), and Buffalo Bills (2026), he has appeared in 66 games (19 starts) and registered 92 receptions for 1,231 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air, along with three carries for 35 yards on the ground. In 2026, Pettis signed with the Bills on July 31, before being waived by the team on August 29.
A 30-year-old native of San Clemente, CA, Pettis attended the University of Washington (2014-17), where he appeared in 53 games (31 starts), totaled 163 receptions for 2,256 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air, and added four carries for 42 yards on the ground.
