Ofcourse the Titans would be interested, As would 20 other teams. Alot of teams are going to want to take advantage of the Niners stupidity if they even think of putting Trey on the trade block. Hell, Teams would even trade for him if it meant they would have to wait 2 years for him to start for them. Especially if they only have to give up a 3rd RD pick. If the Niners are too stupid to be patient, it will be some other team's rewards. Imagine trading 3 1st RD picks to just give him away to some other team for free after him only starting 4 games. And that will only be the beginning of the nightmare as it will get worse when he fully develops and becomes an elite QB.

Potential is a funny thing. I was told Leaf and Russell had limitless potential. TB12 didn't have much potential. Is potential a real thing? Does Zach Wilson have it? Does Brock? Is it just draft status = potential? Interesting subject.

All those guys got their chance, A big enough sample size to realize it's not going to work out. Trey hasn't been given that chance yet. That's the difference. Giving up on him right now would be doing it blindly. Trey needs atleast a full season of games before anybody decides on his future.

Exactly.
unless it's almost equivalent to what they gave up why would they trade Lance? that's just ridiculous.

they'll have 2 starters under cost controlled contracts next season. likely they either draft another mid rounds or get a vet.

if its Brady they have 3 starters and after this season they can never have enough.

Who is talking about giving up? Just discussing the term 'potential'. Seeing a 6th rounder who was not regarded as having much become the GOAT makes me feel potential is perhaps a myth or just another way of saying, he has the stuff to get drafted early, the tools.
Does anyone think Trey is going to come back and look any different than he has in his small sample of starting games. He cant run KS offense so he'll keep running till he gets hurt.

Yeah, you have a serious reading comprehension issue. Of course "as an individual" he wouldn't be that successful. That was the point of the entire post, homie. On THIS team, he wouldn't be playing as an individual. At any rate, coach disagrees with whether or not he'd be successful, otherwise he wouldn't have signed him. Ive laid out the reasons to support my opinion, while you just argue with no reasoning. That's it for me, I know you relish arguing for the sake of it, but I personally can't stand posts like that.

Amazing that you question my reading comprehension when you are clearly struggling with a very basic point I made.

No quarterback plays the game as an individual. They all have individual abilities however. Your 'reasoning' for the opinion that Josh Johnson could QB this team to a .500 record completely ignores this, and completely ignores what Josh Johnson has shown in his career. He is a bad quarterback. He's been in the league for 15+ years, and started 9 times. His teams are 1-8 in those games and his production is well below average, being kind. There's nothing in his body of work that says he has the ability to quarterback any team, in any situation, to a middling record.

Just because our team won an NFC championship game throwing less than 10 passes in 2019, or that we were able to go to an NFC championship game with a 7th round rookie, doesn't mean the team can carry a bad Quarterback and have any level of success. A dysfunctional quarterback, which is what Josh Johnson has shown himself to be in almost every situation he's played, can sink an entire offense. You think the 2019 Green Bay Packers go into a game against the Jimmy Garoppolo 49ers with the same defensive gameplan as a Josh Johnson led 49ers team? There's no chance. These games are not played in a vacuum. The 49ers are not quarterback proof.

Jimmy Garoppolo is an average starting QB. Brock Purdy, while being a 7th round pick, showed he could be an above average QB. That's based on their individual ability. On this team, with all the help they receive from the great players, system, and coaches, they both have shown the ability to lead efficient offenses and put up QB efficiency numbers that rival some of the best QBs in the league. Would their job be more difficult on lesser teams? Without question it would... but that doesn't mean they are easily replaceable and that any QB could come in and have success. These guys have skills as players. They are not plug and play pieces where their ability is meaningless.

When you can support your opinion that Josh Johnson would have success here based on his individual ability in conjunction with how our team could help him, you'll have worthwhile reasoning. Right now, you have nothing other than comparisons to what our team was able to accomplish with different QBs who are clearly superior players to Johnson.

Appreciate your assumption that I like to argue just to argue, and your misplaced insult about my reading comprehension. Really means a lot!

It would be interesting if he came back different either less weight to add speed or more weight to lean into the power stuff. Hard to be pounding the weight room like a maniac tho when his foot has been jacked all year. Hurts is an example of a QB who has extreme power can run over ppl. The rush TDs speak for themselves. He's got time all offseason to get his body and game right.

Maybe, he picked up some of Brocks game watching from the sidelines.

This. That would be the dream. The film is out there he just has to pick it up and see what BP was doing out there on those plays, try to incorporate into his game.

ya, nah..... TL doesn't have the same skill set as BCB, won't be able to emulate his game no matter how many reps he gets... in all respects he is the opposite of Brockstar

So what is your theory then on Jimmy vs Denver?? He just plain sucked?? Could it have rust?? Could it be his shoulder got sore after the Seahawak Game??

He may have sucked but after the KC game, Jimmy was playing at a Pro Bowl level.

Anyway getting back to Trey Lance, I think they'll start him. But if he goes on a losing streak which I expect, due to not playing for a few year or seasons. Do they bench him?? That's a good way to ruin the kids confidence, but at the same time could build frustration between players, coaches and fans.

If it was up to me I'd cut my losses and trade Trey Lance. Then sign Tom Brady for a season and draft another QB in the late rounds.

Could it have been rust? No. A player doesnt play well one week and then show rust the following week. That isnt how rust works. Could he have been sore? Sure. But this would be the first time his shoulder being sore was brought up. So thats just another excuse.

I was very satisfied with how Jimmy was playing for the most part this year. I dont know if I would say Pro Bowl level, but he was playing probably his best ball as a 49er. I posted many many times just that.

As far as your Lance comments, I just dont know why any analysis on this board about him always starts with "when he starts losing games like I expect." Why not give the kid a chance to grow and improve? Why just assume he is going to cost the team wins and potentially be benched? Makes no sense to me.

Thank god you arent our GM talking about cutting our losses after 4 games of a 23 year old QB playing. Trading Lance and then signing Brady would cost this team a s**tload of money. It would be terrible football business.

A player who had no off season workouts, OTA's, mini camp and training camp will have rust. You ever stop working out for a year then, all of a sudden just start working out and feeling good, doing reps like a mad man. Then the next day start feeling sore and feeling like s**t. I kinda compare the Seattle and Denver game exactly like that which I would think is rust.

And as for Trey Lance, do you think he's gonna just jump right in and go on this crazy winning streak?? Lets be real here, he will go on a losing streak, you know something other than Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes go through. And why so offensive when someone mentions a losing streak, why not answer the question instead of getting all bent out of shape over it.

Thank god I'm not the GM after 4 games, lol, try two season and 4 games. Not to mention we have a second year QB who went on a 6 game winning streak with two playoff wins on the shelf. Yes I'd trade Trey Lance before I ruin his confidence any further. Like I said, what do you do if he goes on a losing streak and Brock is coming back healthy?? Benching Lance will only hurt his confidence even more. Do you just say screw and gamble hoping Lance gets you to the playoffs? What if he falls short?? Again I'm basing this off of a QB who hasn't played a full season in three years and coming off of a major injury.

Show me where I said that. I, unlike you, have a huge problem with making declarative statements about Trey Lance's future with out team. You could be right that he goes on a big losing streak. You could also be dead wrong and he doesnt. No one knows.

I am not being defensive about someone mentioning a losing streak. I am being "defensive" when someone speaks on this hypothetical losing streak as if it is a virtual guarantee that it will happen. Not a single person knows if it will or not. I'm not getting bent out of shape. I just think its laughable when people make these baseless comments like "we wouldnt make the playoffs with Trey as our starter." Its stupid. Baseless. Useless posting.

Trading Trey "before he loses his confidence" is something that would HURT the team from a financial point of view. As far as your question what I would do if we go on a major losing streak when Brock is healthy, the answer is "it depends." Unlike a lot of posters on here, I am able to evaluate the Quarterback's play independent from whether or not we won the game. Its possible a QB plays poorly and the team wins, just like its possible the QB plays great and the team loses. I personally dont think this team is going to really go on long losing streaks the way its currently constructed regardless of who the QB is. But thats just a guess like everyone else is doing. If Trey is playing horrible and costing us games, then Brock absolutely should be the starter again. If Trey is playing good football but there are other reasons why we are losing, then I dont see the point of a QB change. Context matters.

Re bold: You didn't say that I didn't say you did. But of course I'm gonna start it that way. Its pretty much a long shot that Trey Lance jumps right in and picks up where Purdy left off, if we're being realistic. And of course I could be dead wrong like I was about Purdy, but who expectedly a third string QB to step right in and look better than Lance and Jimmy G!!!

And why is it baseless, what he's shown has been mostly struggles. Sure he's shown glimpses of being good, but overall he's been inconsistent and of course that might be due to his lack of playing time. Also if you're calling our view baseless, shouldn't it also be baseless saying that the 9ers can make it??

And how bad exactly would trading Trey Lance be financially?? He's go only two years left on his contract and isn't his last year optional??

Also I said if Trey Lance goes on a losing streak, regardless of his play. Because in the end and its the nature of the business that the QB takes the fall and fame and all I know is the 49ers are a Super Bowl contending team with Brock Purdy. And no, you can't just plug and play and QB into Shanahan's system and instantly be successful, I think Josh Johnson showed us that.

With all that said…

What I know will happen, is that they will start Trey Lance. Whether they ride or die with him this season is another story.

What I want to happen, sign Tom Brady while the team is together.

Hopefully he hasn't considering that Purdy's game lead us to one of the worst NFC Championship losses in franchise history.
