San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy entered Nick Shook's Week 1 quarterback rankings for NFL.com at No. 15. Three weeks later, Purdy has climbed all the way to the No. 1 spot.
Purdy began the season as a Tier 3 quarterback in Shook's rankings and now sits atop Tier 1, ahead of elite passers such as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
The 49ers quarterback has put together an impressive 2026 campaign, completing 72.3% of his passes for 789 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception through three games. His NFL-leading 133.1 passer rating highlights his efficiency.
Purdy has also added a rushing touchdown, showing he can contribute beyond the pocket, which doesn't surprise fans who have watched him throughout his career.
"Brock Purdy is building a strong early case for MVP through three weeks," Shook wrote, "lighting up defenses with ease and looking completely comfortable directing Kyle Shanahan's offense. I'm fascinated to see if he can keep it up against Denver's defense this weekend."
Purdy's latest performance included 297 passing yards and four touchdowns in a 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals, helping the unbeaten 49ers improve to 3-0.
"Purdy was most efficient in the quick passing game, finishing 8 of 10 for 180 yards and two touchdowns," Shook noted. "His 18 yards per attempt on quick passes is the highest mark in a game in the NGS (Next Gen Stats) era (among QBs with at least 10 quick attempts).
"Purdy targeted George Kittle on five of his 10 quick throws, with Kittle catching four of those passes for 50 yards and a TD."
The 49ers will look to extend their winning streak Sunday against the visiting Denver Broncos, while Purdy will attempt to maintain his place atop Shook's quarterback rankings.
