Kyle isn't the GM.

He doesn't have the title, but he most certainly has final say on the roster.

As do most coaches. GMs typically control player transactions. You know, FA, draft. Once time comes for roster cuts, that's the coach. Who did Kyle cut that you disapprove of?

Lynch didn't hire KS....it was the other way around. If Kyle wanted Lynch gone tomorrow Jed would make it happen. He's got final say on all things that involve the team he coaches.

There's more to evaluating QBs than looking at box score numbers my friend. That aside, you still have some very interesting takes on these two games.

Houston and Atlanta were not equivalent competition. Atlanta was still in a position to contend for a playoff spot going into that game. If the 49ers had lost to the Falcons, they would have been behind them in the playoff race. The Texans were a bottom 5 team all year long with nothing to play for. The 49ers were LOSING the game to that Texans team at halftime. I remember having a s**t fit at how much of a struggle it was given what was on the line. Trey Lance was a complete mess in the 1st half. Yes he recovered, settled in, and made a couple plays... but it was far from what you'd want to see at the QB position for a team primed for a playoff run. That's not to say Jimmy G is that guy. He was just much closer to it last season.

Atlanta was never a legit playoff threat. Houston and Atlanta are equivalent on defense. Neither had much. Houston had also just beaten the Chargers the week before with an elite qb. They were actually playing hard. So yes I'd say it's an even comparison. Only reason we weren't behind Atlanta big was because the defense stopped them on the goal line multiple times.

I saw Jimmy be completely lost for entire halves too. A guy in his 8th freaking year. So no I'm not looking at box scores. Im seeing similar production out of two guys with wildly different experience levels against similar competition. If one guy looks "lost" out there and can still produce to the level of the other guy somehow your take away is the other guy will be better in 2022? I'll take the lost guy figuring it out with experience.

Pretty sure Jed York hired Lynch. But who's counting?

I could have worded my post better but I was not talking about the 53 man roster.

Kyle is the defacto GM here, though it is a collaborative effort with Lynch and his supporting staff, under Jed and his right hand man.

I don't think we've had a GM in the traditional sense for over a decade.

If you disagree with this, that's fine. It's mostly irrelevant when it comes to Trey Lance because the man with the GM title has publicly said Kyle made the choice.

"The idea to hire Lynch was his own," reports Schefter. "He personally called Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan about a week ago, and volunteered for the job."

I wonder who pitched him to York. Right before they both bent York over for two of the most ridiculous 1st time contracts for either position. Don't forget why that was.

And we were in a Super Bowl 3 years later. Seems the contracts were worth it. But how bout getting back to Trey Lance? Plenty of other threads you can troll in about your grief as a fan.
Some folks seem to be holding onto Jimmy for dear life. The writing is on the wall and they are in complete denial of it. Mark my words. Trey Lance will be the starter week 1 of the regular season. Just accept it.

You chose to engage a quick post on a tangential conversation related to Trey Lance's selection and you think it's me who needs to get back to Trey Lance? I've made a bunch of posts about Trey Lance in this thread tonight which you could have responded to instead.

Making arguments you don't agree with isn't trolling, and I don't feel grief over the 49ers situation. I like the football team with Shanahan as the lead guy (not factoring York and Paraag), warts and all.

This what I'm talkin bout! LFG!!

The lack of definition in his legs has always baffled me. Looks solid up top then just straight tube legs. Even the non athlete qbs like the Manning's have defined calves. Must be that Minnesota build.

Your lack of understanding 49ers history is showing.

No NFL team to root for in Alabama. All of this NFL stuff is post-Saban for him.

Lol I see more talent up close then you guys do, it's obviously given me an advantage in knowing what to look for. I've been spot in about everybody I've had an opinion on so far when the rest of the board has been sunshine pumping. Furthermore, you guys think I'm a Mac fan because I didn't crap on him in his thread, I could care less about him or the patriots. But it's no secret him plus 2 1st round picks is a much better option than Lance.
None of this matters, the Niners are about to fall off hard and the Bengals about to be the next semi dynasty. They are about to roll with Burrow and a revamped o line.

Comparing stats is pointless 2021 Niners made it to the NFC Championship, while Alex Smith arguably had the worst 49ers team of all time. Trey looked lost and unprepared whenever he saw the field, same scared with the "idunno" face Alex Smith used to make. No confidence.

No he didn't look lost and scare…he looked better as he played more…shocker I know.

He has final say in the 53 man roster. Lynch has say on the 90 man roster and the draft. It's a collaborative effort across the board and the FA signings and draft picks back that up.

Dude's been here for a little over a yr and comes off as an arrogant arm chair GM lol. Why would he think we should listen to him and put him on pedestal… because he lives in Alabama?

Yeah Trey does literally none of that consistently. He's jittery in the pocket. Panicks if his first read isnt there. He doesn't layer throws or throw guys open. The success he has had has largely come from Kyle scheming guys wide open.
The most successful part of his game, running, has already shown it won't transfer to the nfl. He has yet to beat a linebacker to the edge and he got stones by multiple safeties. I'm on record as saying this will be one of the biggest draft screw ups of all time.
I think the Niners would've won a super bowl this year had they taken Parsons or Slater and drafted anyone else but Aaron banks in round two. They were that close but chose to draft for the future instead of bolstering a roster that was ready now

just making s**t up lol
