IMO he needs ab other year of seasoning and heading up a whole unit/defense. Mainly to learn how Shannahan runs the entire system and works with the FO and what not. It would be great for us as well
Are we worried at all about Houston he spent a lot of time there as a player was a good one

So we gonna change the defense, again?

What would be your solution?? But with that said i don't think Fangio would change too much. But who on this staff do you think is capable of doing what Saleh and Ryans did??
I don't see how we'd save the scheme if we lose DeMeco. Saleh may have started with a Carroll/Seattle scheme but he, DeMeco, and Kocurek have morphed this into something else. Bullocks doesn't have a resume that screams "ready" and Undlin spent one year as DC in Detroit before joining us when Patricia got the axe.

Even a guy like Gus Bradley, with roots in the old Seattle scheme, will probably come with his own staff and ideas. Maybe he'd be smart enough to keep some guys on the "ain't broke, don't fix it" principle, but who knows?

I'd like to keep Kocurek and the attacking DL style we've built here.

Didn't you say the same thing about Saleh?

Bettcher has been a DC before and Bullocks is apparently quite well regarded so they could definitely stay in-house.

Don't see how Mark Davis can sell that hire to the fans. They need a big name like Harbaugh.

Bullocks like Ryans is a former player and has been on this staff just as long as Ryans. He has more overall years of coaching experience as well.

If Shanahan selects him, I don't see any reason to expect that he wouldn't be ready. After Saleh and Ryans, I think Kyle has earned the benefit of the doubt.

I hope Ryans stays, and as for Bullocks not being ready, many said the same about Saleh & Ryans, I to trust Kyle, he's earned the benefit of the doubt like you said, but hoping Ryans doesn't get a HC job, not yet.

Has Kyle said anything about Bullocks being ready? If he has, than that's good enough for me, too. Otherwise we're just talking about resumes here.

If we do lose Ryans, and there's nobody on staff competent enough to step in and keep the system going, I say bring in a guy with a history running our defensive scheme to maintain continuity. Fangio is an excellent DC. But we have moved away from 3-4 scheme, and are doing quite well. We need to bring in a guy with a track record of running a 4-3 LEO, wide 9 scheme. That is not Fangio.
Oh hell nah, anyone but the effing Raiders. Don't let him be subjected to Dumb & Dumber, bowl haircut boy.

Yeah don't fix what's not broke, no reason to bring in a 3-4 DC, when our talent is geared towards a 4-3 LEO, Wide 9 scheme. I loved Fangio, but I'd also bring in someone who knows how to run this system if they chose to not promote from within.

The 49ers haven't ran a base 4-3 under since 2018, so I'm not sure why that's even brought up. That's oooooold news, and we want nothing to do with that defense.

We had this discussion last offseason: nobody in the NFL runs this defense. This defense is unique to Shanahan's 49ers. This was one of the main reasons many of us felt Demeco was the best guy for the job because we could keep everything intact and continue to evolve it. The only other team that runs a base wide 9 is Robert Saleh. He liked it so much that he took it with him to NY.

I'm not going to sweat it until Demeco is gone, but if he goes, the next DC is likely on the team. I trust Shanny.
