He played the most snaps of any patriots defensive player this year.

Unfortunately he did have a down year, but he certainly has bounce back talent.

49ers can ask Jimmy how good he is, they played together

carlos rogers says, hello?

People are talking about Malcolm Butler's "down year" like he was among the league worst or something. It's relative. He had a "down year" FOR HIM. Which means, overall, it was still a solid season.

His 2017 was fine -- just not as good as the aggregate of his previous three seasons.

He was the 51st ranked CB on PFF this yr for what it's worth. He's a good player, not sure on scheme fit or size....I'm cool bringing him in if that's who our FO wants. I'll take a winner and a guy who feels like he's got something to prove.

My issue is price, not sure what he gets paid.

Probably a small Island off the coast of Costa Rica.
Would be an upgrade. I am all for it. Given that he's eternally in Wilsons head doesn't hurt either.

$3.9M this past season.

We could double his salary and he still would just barely be in the top 20 CBs based on APY.

Just cut Ward and move his 8 million this season over to Butler in a multi year deal.

We could but why not allow him to stay and compete for a roster spot? As you know, it would have virtually no impact on the cap.

He made one big play in the super bowl a few years ago. Other than that he's been meh.
According to Spotrac, his market value is $13m per year.

I agree. He's average in Belichick's system and will not be impactful on another defense.
