He played exceptionally well the whole season except for the play he f**ked up and blocked Brunskill on a critical drive in the NFCC game. Other than that and the occasional whiffed in the middle, I'd resign him but not top Guard money.

Maybe the 9ers see Banks has his replacement. Just a thought. 🤔

Maybe. But I'm hoping the 49ers plan on re-signing Tomlinson at LG, and Banks wins the job at RG.

That would be Ideal.

I'm positive the 49ers want Tomlinson back solely because he's the only good guard on the roster. Laken probably knows that too and with this possibly being his last dip into free agency, he'll want to maximize his earnings.
You can't let a good O lineman get away. You can never have too many. Those guys get beat up during the season and need an occasional rest or game off.

Bank played LG at Notre Dame. Hopefully with one season under his belt he can start. I LOVE Laken but my prediction is they will let him walk. With Trent Williams getting 22 million a year and Alex Mack getting big money they cannot commit so much of the salary cap to OL. Additionally they will get a 3rd roud comp pick in 2023 due to him signing with another team (assumig we do not bring in a high priced FA.

PFF ranks him #26 overall among FAs this year, 2nd only to Brandon Scherff among all guards. 3 years, 27 million, $16.5 guaranteed is what they estimate he will earn. Among the top 12 guards in the league, he is one of the most balanced between pass protection and run blocking, according to their rating system.

There is no way they let him walk unless his agent pushes for Brandon Scherff money - $16.5M APY. The 49ers cannot afford to go with an entirely untested, untried virtual rookie at RG. Banks played almost no snaps this past season. With as much as Brunskill struggled against power rushers, if Banks had been at all close to being ready to play, he would have been the starter.

The comp pick is wrong, players who have their deals either voided, or options declined no long count for/against the comp pick formula, so no pick at all for us if we lose Laken.

Interesting. I thought his pass protection has seemed pretty weak. Not awful like Compton but avg at best. But this is just watching the games live
Laken is about to be able to sign with any team well in advance of FA starting so one way or another we are about to find out what his market value is in the next day or two.
Great run blocker, bad pass blocker. Call it what it is.

They should be factoring into their decision that behind him we really have nothing quality at guard. Brunskill has proven he cannot protect our qb inside consistently. We have no clue if banks will be good yet.

This is what happens when you refuse to address a position for 5 years, having to sign players because you have nothing capable behind them.

It's actually good compared to the competition out there at guard. There just isn't a lot of good pass blocking guard play in the league.
