His contract has been a bargain the past three years. He is as steady as it gets, and never misses a game. We talk about improving the right side of the line but the 49ers need to bring back their left guard. He is a key re-sign. Give him a three year deal that's really a two year deal.

Agreed. Need Tomlinson back. Want more of him & Williams anchoring down the left side of the OL.
His contract voids next Tuesday, if the 49ers want to avoid a $1,204,059 dead money hit, they need to get him extended before Tuesday at 4PM EST, which is the time that transactions are due for any day of the NFL's league years.

Good insight AB!

We need to be powering up the O line, not letting it slowly bleed away. We need to resign him. What does a young, developing qb most need? Protection.

Preach!

+2. Thanks AB.
I saw Laken and Trent pumping each other up before a few of the games and they have a ton of good chemistry. Guaranteed Trent went to management and said to extend this guy is a must.
Not sure if everyone realizes this but his void deals after today. That means that tomorrow he is a FA and can sign with another team - he does not have to wait for new league year. Hope the niners get something done today because if not he would hit the market at a time when there is a lot of money and unfilled needs out there several weeks before FA starts.

Management should've responded, lets use some of your money to help?

SF doesn't have to be under the cap to give him an extension correct? There's a deadline date when every team must be under the cap but up until then it doesn't matter?

Well here we are. Hopefully an announcement is made within the next couple hours.
Get this guy signed already. Really quality player that plays every single down for a team that always has a boatload of injuries

I bet his agent is telling him to test the F/A waters right now. He's going to get paid this offseason, Oline is a position of need more than ever today and teams are willing to pay Guards. We need wrap this up fast or realize we could see both Guard Positions filled by Brunskill type guys with a 37 year old Center.
Suprised he wasn't re-signed sometime last season. Laken has been a steadying presence on the left side of the line since we got him and good o-line play isn't easy to come by in the NFL. Hopefully we can lock him up for a few more years.
