Would you want Joey Porter?

A more accurate title thread would be "Joey Porter wants to join a 3-4 team on the west coast."

uhhh He specifically named the 49ers. There's nothing wrong the title. He didn't make a blanket statement. (shaking his head at people who nitpick title threads. It's not like it says "Porter wants to play for one team and one team only: the 49ers")

I'm on the fence with Porter. I don't think the 49ers should actively pursue him (overpay), but I wouldn't be disappointed if they signed him. His 9 sacks last year would have led the 49ers.

The only reason I would be against signing Porter is that he would take playing time away from Brooks, Lawson, Haralson, and even Briggs.

But I've always like his cocky attitude.

Porter has at least 2 more productive years in him. No cap next year. Do it.

I think Porter would be a better addition for the price and length of contract over Peppers. While Peppers is the better player he would demand more money for more years and who knows if he can even play OLB in a 3-4.

Sorry. I didn't mean to direct my statement at you but at what Porter said.

From what i've gathered, Porter only mentions that he wants to play for the 49ers because:
1. The 49ers are on the west coast.
2. The 49ers run a 3-4.

It's the same reason why he mentions that he's eyeing the Cowboys, Chargers and the Cardinals. He then later goes on to say that any 3-4 team can use his services.

So, he wants to join any team that runs a 3-4 but prefers the team reside on the west coast. Not a whole lot to get excited about IMO.

If we can get him for a third round pick or above, i'd love it. He's a proven player, a rookie is not.

I believe he wanted to play for us last time he was a free agent. I'd still take him. He'll come cheap

Yes! I like angry players with talent that like to hurt opposing teams.

I wouldn't mind if we signed him, but I would like to see us make Merriman or Peppers a priority over Porter.

No, I could not root for this guy.
