Would you want Joey Porter?

Would you want Joey Porter?

I would be interested if he were a FA, then we could sigh him to a 1 year deal. But we have to trade maybe a draft pick for the guy. I would have given up a draft pick for Porter 2 years ago. But I don't want to trade some young talent for a older player who's thinking about retiring in a year. Remember he want's to play on the westcoast to be close to his family. That means he has retirement on his mind . Lets not get carried away by the "name" and think about the teams future.
bring him in he can start over haralson and we can develop brooks that is some dpth at OLB

I'd like him for a 2 year deal. Willis, Justin Smith, Clements, Spikes, Porter, Franklin all playing at once
This is like one of those reading comprehension SAT questions:

The 49ers need a proven pass-rusher on the cheap.

Joey Porter is a proven pass rusher.
He will come cheap

Do the 49ers need Joey Porter?

This is a no-brainer. This guy couldn't possibly have a negative effect on this team. Sing wouldn't allow him to spoil the locker-room and he's still good enough to start on our team (most teams in the NFL for that matter).

Lawson is good but he will never be great. Porter is already great. Brooks has the potential to be great. I know it hurts but Lawson was a wasted 1st round pick. He hasn't materialized into the force they projected him to be. Brooks has.

Porter would give our D a little nastiness too, something that has been noticeably missing for the past few years. He takes our D to top 5 the second he puts that uniform on.

PS He would have lead our team in sacks. We finished 3rd this season in sacks, imagine how dominant our D would be with Porter? That's championship caliber.
Everyone is jumping to look at stats and thinking it would automatically fit with our team. noones looking at the reasons Miami is letting him go. are yall forgetting its Parcells who runs the show in Miami?

So if someone whos highly thought of as Bill Parcells wants nothing to do with him that gives me enough reason to take a deeper look at all this. case in point:

"..My understanding, from these conversations, is that Porter had a habit of sending players off the field who had been sent in to take his spot, especially on third down... even after he was suspended for the Tampa Bay game. "

"..Porter got more snaps than he would have otherwise, largely because the team did not, as one source put it, "want to rock the Joey boat."

This isn't the first time that I've heard that "rock the Joey boat" phrase, not even during the past two years, with a tougher regime in place."

The guy is a Diva straight up. Everyone wants to say well look at Sing he can take care of it. But notice that the players that Sing has mentored are all young players lookin on up. Davis, Brooks etc. Porter at 33 and with past success in the league is set in his ways. its not like hes a Ray Lewis type player always looking to learn.

Bottom line hes a selfish guy who doesnt seem to fit the theme of the defense we have. which is selflessness.

he had 17.5 the season before and 9.0 last year. Manny lead are team with 6.5 im drinking the koolaid on this one, but i think we shouldn't low ball him just give him what he wants and with manny brooks Porter and Parys, hell let's draft graham too... this could be one hell of a linebacking core with spikes and willis..

But why doesn't he want to play for nolan?

Would you?

It sounds like it doesn't have anything to do with Nolan. He got into it with Miami's head coach last year, was benched, and saw his playing time reduced so he wants out.
On the cheap yes.
Patrick Willis would Check Joey, and if that failed, Coach Sing would...
if porter is cut and isnt contacted IMMEDIATELY by the 49ers, our front office fails.

he helped take the 2-14 miami dolphins back to the playoffs in 1 season, i think he deserves a little credit.

agree..to many question marks regarding Porter...age, attitude, chemistery. Parcells knows when a guy is over the hill.

Yeah Porter is too much of a talked but he does immediately improve the D. Dont know this for sure but as a LB you gotta figure that he might have more respect for Sing than he would for another coach.
Its something McC and Sing I'm sure will talk about. So many factors. Whats the asking price? If he wants out of Miami due to a decreased role what does he expect here? Is he an everydown LB considering he wants to always be on the field? Is that something we want to take on? How will it hinder Ahmed Brooks development?

Just so many factors.
