Would you want Joey Porter?

Porter mentions us by name... "Porter said he would like to play for a team that runs a 3-4 defense and is close to his home in Bakersfield, Calif. He specifically mentioned the Chargers, 49ers and Cardinals. "Those would be good fits I feel could use my services," Porter said." Given his antics and off-the-field problems in the past, would Coach Singletary take a chance on him? Would Scotty want him especially given the growth of Parys and Manny? Would he come here cheaper because we won't overpay for his services. I think his best bet will be either AZ or SD as both need pass rushers for their 3-4 especially if "Lights Out" leaves SD. Just a thought...what say you? If you read, please vote.

Posted this in the "Jerry Porter" thread....

I'd love to see him come and teach Brooks/Lawson/Haralson a few moves. He would definitely take our D from top 15 to top 5. I'm just not sure where he would fit in and how the 49ers could keep him happy unless they let go of Lawson or Haralson.

For the record I'll take Porter over Lawson as I see Brooks taking Lawson's spot in a few years anyway. Who better to learn the 3-4 OLB from than Joey Porter?

I wouldn't mind, as long as he comes cheap.

I'd just hate for him to go sign elsewhere and shine..especially if it's with the Tards

Yeah it would... And on 3rds we'd have Willis, Porter, Brooks, Haralson, Lawson all on the field at the same time. That'd be a nightmare for any OL and QB to deal with.

I never liked him because of his mouth, but I would take him on our team in an instant. The defense could use a little more swagger & attitude imo. And I think he would hit double digit sacks easily playing behind J. Smith.

That being said, I doubt we make a run at him. I have a feeling Scot is happy with Haralson, Lawson, & Brooks going into next year. Heck, he was happy with those guys last year when Lawson & Brooks looked much worse and we had fewer sacks as a team.
