Porter mentions us by name... "Porter said he would like to play for a team that runs a 3-4 defense and is close to his home in Bakersfield, Calif. He specifically mentioned the Chargers, 49ers and Cardinals. "Those would be good fits I feel could use my services," Porter said." Given his antics and off-the-field problems in the past, would Coach Singletary take a chance on him? Would Scotty want him especially given the growth of Parys and Manny? Would he come here cheaper because we won't overpay for his services. I think his best bet will be either AZ or SD as both need pass rushers for their 3-4 especially if "Lights Out" leaves SD. Just a thought...what say you? If you read, please vote.

Absolutely. He's still productive, had 9.5 sacks last year in a reduced role with Miami.

He'll have another 4 or 5 good years left in him and he could finish that out with us.

Ray Lewis is 34. Takeo Spikes is 32. Chike Okeafor (starting OLB for the Cardinals) is 34. Clark Haggans (the other OLB is 33). Mike Peterson (Falcons LB) is 33.

LB is a position where age really doesn't matter as much as other positions.

I am all for signing/trading for Porter. He is a proven commodity and he would be able to come right in and add veteran and leadership to an already good D. Porter makes more sense to go after than Peppers and plus the 49ers don't want to break bank or go to a bidding war for Peppers. Porter is the more logical out of the two and signing him to a 2-3 yr contract wouldn't hurt the team.

Depending on the price, SF would be dumb not to look into this. He is 32, but the Niners have been really good at getting aging defensive players to come in and have awesome years. Mike Lewis, Walt Harris, and Takeo Spikes all come to mind.
