ASU pulled the offer to June Jones. Though, Love and Crow want him.
Here's what happened...
When rumors began to swirl that Jones was the choice...several of ASU's million dollar donors stopped returning calls. The vast majority of the fan base was vocally not in support of the hire. Fans jammed the athletic department's phone with threats of non renewing (the already limited) season tickets. UofA fans were actually calling to say "thank you". This forced them to pull the offer.
Once internal word got out that Carroll had interest...that's who the big donors wanted. No word yet the progress there. But evidently Carroll's agent made it clear that ASU would NOT have to match NFL dollars. He wants in the ballpark of $5M. Which ASU's budgetary committee has approved. ASU has also placed calls to Mack Brown (unlikely) and Chris Petersen. They are willing to offer Petersen approximately $4M.
At no point were Sumlin and Fedora candidates for the job, despite reports.
Update: Petersen has asked for ASU's discretion due to the upcoming bowl game between the two teams. Remember, Erickson will be on the sideline as well. Awkward Bowl.

In response to Patterson's announcement the agent of Jones, Leigh Steinberg, posted the following message on his official company blog:
"Just had one of the most bizarre endings to a set of productive discussions to bring a client to a new situation. Everything was set,few tweaks left, and the principal decision maker yanks the deal w no real explanation."
In the aftermath of the announcements from both sides, multiple sources close to the negotiation told SbB today that the sticking point between the two parties was the $2 million buyout in Jones' SMU contract.

Jcool you got any updates or rumors on Hawaii's next HC??
A six-member committee has been formed to search for University of Hawaii's next football coach. Greg McMackin retired Monday after a disappointing 6-7 season and missing the postseason for the second time in his four years leading the Warriors.
The search advisory committee includes Bank of Hawaii Chairman Peter Ho, Hawaii Sports Network owner Duane Kurisu and Cincinnati Bengals minority owner Edison Miyawaki.
The 62-year-old McMackin just completed the fourth year of his five-year contract that pays him a base pay of $1.1 million annually. He will forego $500,000 owed in his final year.
Hawaii Athletics Director Jim Donovan is creating the timetable for the search. Details such as salary range and contract length will be forthcoming.
The committee will have its first meeting Dec. 12.
