I love your two lists...unfortunately, after Marriotta, I don't see anything I would like as a QB here....I think we have to get a backup via trade, but I don't want a retread, like orton or tebow, or ...pick your choice. And I sure don't want to jump up and get marriotta, as we just don't have the picks for that. Besides, that would mean delaying picking that CB, WR, ILB, OLB, DL, OL. And that is what makes this draft so tough. Maybe with the dearth of talent at Qb, we can't afford to take a really unpopular choice when a much better CB, WR, OLB, etc is out there...and I know that is what we will do. QBs just suck this yr. AB and I both wanted Garoppolo(sp?) last yr, and NE got him. dam. I don't think he was even on our radar. This yr...well, there is no there there on the radar for qbs.

Like the OLB position a couple years ago I think we are going to have to pray CK stays healthy and that Gabbert grows.

This is true, I wanted Garoppolo in the 2nd round last year before the draft, that or Aaron Murray before his injury.

I fear Gabbert is too far gone to be saved, Jacksonville really screwed him up.

I don't know how anyone can't be a little concerned about the CB position.

Jordy Nelson
Randall Cobb
DeVante Adams
Alshon Jeffery
Golden Tate
Megatron
ODB
Victor Cruz
Julio Jones
Roddy White
Michael Floyd
John Brown
Antonio Brown
AJ Green
Steve Smith Jr

Those are some of the WRs the 49ers face this year. Normally, I'm all for OL/DL, but I think Trent should think long and hard about Trae Waynes & Marcus Peters depending on how the board falls. Eric Mangini's best draft picks were Darrelle Revis & Joe Haden.

I think CB is certainly a top 3 pick if we can get our guy. Good points! If not it looks like we may wait until later and develop like Morris, Johnson and hopefully Acker and Reaser this year. There is a lot if young talent though and potential. Gonna be a hell of a battle for sure!

5. CB (10) - Looking at 5 picks within the top 107 picks and 5 more from the 199th pick on (Round 1 or 6)

I can certainly see why you wanted to go that route. I think Baalke got Harbaugh his guys in McCoy, Johnson, Gabbert, etc. so it wasn't seen as big as a need. Now? Well crap...bad year to consider a push-player or excellent backup QB.

Darryl Morris. Who we developed for the Texans.

Ahh...yes, I hated to see that speed leave!

Edit--but for some reason I think both Reaser and Acker will be better. Loved there highlights.

Oh no doubt. I think they both come in with high ceilings. Morris was another late round nice surprise!
I'm doing a mock right now in which I've highlighted some "areas of need"

Going off of our stats last season, and seeing how certain areas of our game rank to the NFL and our stats last year....
Our biggest drop off (in my opinion) was our offensive line. They were horrendous

For me, I'm hoping we draft a bully for the O-line with the first pick. Then follow that up with either a ILB or DL, then after a pass catcher (a TE or Funchess) I expect us to go secondary.
We've always had a decent defense against the pass, and I'm VERY interested to see what our new CB coach can do with the plethora of young guys we have.

I would love to see a NT who can not only eat up blockers but push the pocket so the QB has no room to step up. I also want to see either a pass rushing DE or OLB that provides a consistent push because neither back up Brooks or Lemonier can do it. Brooks is a playmaker but not a consistent pressure guy. At ILB I would like to see them add someone especially with Bowman coming off of injury and Bishop who hasn't been healthy since 2010. Wilhoite was ok nothing spectacular. Then maybe a CB although I like our youngsters they are unproven. I like Jalen Collins or Alex Carter later in the draft. WR is a need as always so if they can find a speedy one who can double as dynamic PR, maybe Tyler Lockett or Stefan Diggs IMO would be great. If McDonald's back is a question mark maybe a TE but do that late the talent sucks, don't waste a high pick. G is a need just in case Thomas's knee goes or Boone can't bounce back. Kendall Hunter hasn't been healthy in 2 years and Bush has an injury history while turning 30. Hyde could be great but one bad blow and he's done so I would like to see a back drafted by the 4th round. Duke Johnson, TJ Yeldon and Melvin Gordon are all guys I would not mind seeing drafted.

I'd love to see it and I like your approach. I believe DeUh also had us nab La'el Collins with the first pick. And that is a Baalke-like move.

As to your OL point, I am praying that we move to a ZBS and that ALL positions are wide open to a real competition. It was absolutely unacceptable to sit there and watch veterans like Iupati and Boone make mistake after mistake with zero accountability. That can NOT happen again. Like you said, we need "next man up" waiting for their chance right behind those that do win the starting battles to start the year.

Love it. So this is what I have so far (in an ideal world Baalke will nab as many of the top needs as possible where BPA meets at the intercept). What would your ideal order be?

Draft Round - Ideal Position Targets by Draft Pick:
1 (15/15) - OLB/DE
2 (14/46) - WR/ILB
3 (15/79) - LG/RB
4 (27/127) - CB/FS
4 (33/132) - LT/RT
5 (15/151) - NT
6 (14/189) - QB
7 (29/246) - PK/P
7 (37/254) - TE/H-Back

Baalke's top priorities appear to be: (Goal)
1. NT (3) - Looking at all 3 top NT's within the first 29 picks and no further (Round 1 - Trade back to 25th)
2. WR (13) - Looking at 8 picks within the top 63 picks and 5 more from the 154th pick on (Round 2 or 4)
3. ILB (8) - Looking at 5 picks within the top 58 picks and 3 more from the 94th pick on (Round 2 or 3)
4. DE (5) - Looking at 5 top DE's within the first 104 picks and no further (Round 2 or 3)
5. CB (10) - Looking at 5 picks within the top 107 picks and 5 more from the 199th pick on (Round 1 or 6)
6. RB (4) - Looking at 2 picks within the top 68 picks and 2 more from the 135th pick on (Round 2 or 7)
7. OLB (6) - Looking at 2 picks within the top 19 picks and 4 more from the 88th pick on (Round 1 or 6)
8. OL (5) - Looking at 3 picks within the top 87 picks and 2 more from the 197th pick on (Round 3 or 7)
9. TE (2) - Looking at 2 picks within the top 74 and no further (Round 3)
10. FS (2) - Looking at 2 picks at 122 & 126 and no further (Round 4)
11. QB (1) - Looking at 1 pick within the top 61 picks and no further (Round 2)

Really good list and tough guys to defend against.

IMO, we still need DLine guys to put maximum pressure on QB's which really will help our secondary.
