Those are some of the WRs the 49ers face this year. Normally, I'm all for OL/DL, but I think Trent should think long and hard about Trae Waynes & Marcus Peters depending on how the board falls. Eric Mangini's best draft picks were Darrelle Revis & Joe Haden.

Really good list and tough guys to defend against.

IMO, we still need DLine guys to put maximum pressure on QB's which really will help our secondary.

Exactly...it's not like we had shut down corners the past 4 years...it was all pass rush

At ILB I would like to see them add someone especially with Bowman coming off of injury and Bishop who hasn't been healthy since 2010. Wilhoite was ok nothing spectacular. Then maybe a CB although I like our youngsters they are unproven. I like Jalen Collins or Alex Carter later in the draft. WR is a need as always so if they can find a speedy one who can double as dynamic PR, maybe Tyler Lockett or Stefan Diggs IMO would be great. If McDonald's back is a question mark maybe a TE but do that late the talent sucks, don't waste a high pick. G is a need just in case Thomas's knee goes or Boone can't bounce back. Kendall Hunter hasn't been healthy in 2 years and Bush has an injury history while turning 30. Hyde could be great but one bad blow and he's done so I would like to see a back drafted by the 4th round. Duke Johnson, TJ Yeldon and Melvin Gordon are all guys I would not mind seeing drafted.

This has been my hope as well...but however they shore up the middle it needs to be a high priority. They have guys at DE and OLB...but are shy of ILBs and Ss.

Our biggest drop off (in my opinion) was our offensive line. They were horrendous

For me, I'm hoping we draft a bully for the O-line with the first pick. Then follow that up with either a ILB or DL, then after a pass catcher (a TE or Funchess) I expect us to go secondary.
We've always had a decent defense against the pass, and I'm VERY interested to see what our new CB coach can do with the plethora of young guys we have.

I'd love to see it and I like your approach. I believe DeUh also had us nab La'el Collins with the first pick. And that is a Baalke-like move.

As to your OL point, I am praying that we move to a ZBS and that ALL positions are wide open to a real competition. It was absolutely unacceptable to sit there and watch veterans like Iupati and Boone make mistake after mistake with zero accountability. That can NOT happen again. Like you said, we need "next man up" waiting for their chance right behind those that do win the starting battles to start the year.

I can´t wait to see what happens on Draft Day. You can easily make the case for a ton of different scenarios !

There it is!

And that is EXACTLY how Baalke likes it.

Yes! And Baalke himself always talked about the "inside-out." This is why I think we may end trading back some and going dominant NT and ILB early. And you are right about SS/FS as well. McCray looks capable at SS (small sample size) but we need more than just Ward for FS...need to continue to develop him there while also developing additional slot/nickle CB's to ensure we're OK if Ward, in fact, did have to move back to FS d/t a Reid or Bethea injury.
NC, love your take on Baalke's goals and how many are there at our pick and how many possibles there are total. I have virtually no idea what baalke WILL do, but it is likely to be in one of the 3 or 4 lists above. As you state , it will be determined by where guys are available at our need and where the BPA lines intercept. Based on that I could go with our first being NT, CB, WR, ILB/DE, OL...which is a way of saying I got no idea. What we don't know is what other teams do, and why that makes this such a heart stopping time of yr. Also, keep in mind that Cleveland is still contemplating bundling two firsts for a shot at Marriotta (No way they are picking another manziel like creature). If that happens, it makes our #15 a #14 in reality, Unhh, I guess Winston and marriotta go 1 and 2 anyway, so maybe I am wrong there. Still I think if Cleveland moves up it helps us. At least we aren't drafting a QB #1 for the second time in 2 yrs. Now that is a dis-organization.

We , at least , are going to pick one of the 5 above, unless there is a run on one position in particular, thus opening up another position we thot would be gone.

The Niners listed McCray at FS and Dahl at SS last year (Dahl was the primary backup for both Reid and Bethea).

IIRC McCray played both positions (FS and SS) in Pre-Season last year.

Oh, I was not aware of that! I guess both positions are interchangeable anyhow b/c we run a 3-4 but then again, not sure how Mangini will perceive that this year and going forward. He may want different skill sets. I can't wait for us to ID the "surprise" players this year who we think (and will) make the team (i.e. the Farrell, McCray, Okoye's, etc. of the team)!

I'm with you. Your guess is just as good as anyone else's but this systematic approach will probably give you the best chance...so yes, if the two intercept (BPA & Need), we probably will see exactly what you noted: NT, WR, ILB, DE & CB right out of the gate (in any order)!

This same approach helped me predict Jimmie Ward last year and I hope to nail it down again this year (wishful thinking). I do believe WR Kelvin Benjamin was our first target though but he went to the Panthers one spot ahead of us.

That´s what I like about S Clayton Geathers Central Florida (see Final Version above). I list him at SS but I don´t think he is limited schematically. I saw him play deep half, single high, in the box. You name it.

He is also the most vicious hitter in this entire class (Dashon Goldson -esque)

If I had to put money on someone's draft being most baalke-like then this would be it.

I think Devin Smith is a lock for us if he makes it to our pick in the second (and White or Cooper don't fall in the first). Baalke wants offensive players with speed and explosiveness and that can take advantage of Kaep's monster arm so Devin Smith is probably at the top of their board.

Thx
When completing your Mock Drafts this week/next, keep this in mind from the OP:

Baalke's Top Priority Needs: (Position Targets by Round)
1. NT (3) - Looking at all 3 top NT's within the first 32 picks and no further (Round 1 only)
2. WR (13) - Looking at 8 picks within the top 66 picks and 5 more from the 153rd pick on (Round 1-3 or 5-7)
3. ILB (8) - Looking at 5 picks within the top 65 picks and 3 more from the 95th pick on (Round 1-3 or 5-7)
4. DE (7) - Looking at 5 picks within the first 105 picks and 1 more from the 222nd pick (Round 1-4 or 7)
5. OL (6) - Looking at 4 picks within the top 88 picks and 2 more from the 136th pick on (Round 1-3 5 or 7)
6. OLB (5) - Looking at 2 picks within the top 18 picks and 3 more from the 89th pick on (Round 1-3, 5 or 7)
7. CB (9) - Looking at 3 picks within the top 36 picks and 6 more from the 98th pick on (Round 1-4 or 7)
8. RB (5) - Looking at 2 picks within the top 71 picks and 3 more from the 134th pick on (Round 3, 5 or 7)
9. TE (2) - Looking at 2 picks at 77 & 79 and no further (Round 3 only)
10. FS (2) - Looking at 2 picks at 126 & 128 and no further (Round 4 only)
11. QB (2) - Looking at 1 pick within the top 63 picks and no further (Round 2 only)

Top needs: NT, WR, ILB, DE, OL, then OLB, CB, RB, TE, FS & QB

How I interpret this:
NT - We're going big...2-gap NT's (Mangini's ideal). Ideally we trade back to 20-25 and still pick up either Eddie Goldman or Carl Davis with little chance we get Danny Shelton.
WR - With T.Smith/Simpson, Boldin and Ellington/Patton, this isn't a dire need this year but we need a big-bodied XWR badly for next year. So we either get Dorial Green-Beckham late in the first or hope he falls to the mid-2nd round which is possible. Otherwise, we wait later for round 4 for a guy like Ty Montgomery or late like Vince Mayle. Either way, this WR will train under Boldin for a year at least and if he develops quickly, we could use him outside and slide Boldin inside to the slot. How epic would that be!?! BPA would be at either the Z or Y WR positions and we've looked at a lot of quantity and quality players there as well; in fact 8 total within the first 63 top players (DeVante Parker, Breshad Perriman, Dorial Green-Beckham, Phillip Dorsett, Devin Smith & Sammie Coates).
ILB - Like WR, looking at quality and quantity here as well. No doubt we are going to grab a top ILB within the first 3 rounds (Stephone Anthony, Benardrick McKinney, Paul Dawson, Shaq Thompson or Denzel Perryman) or very late; nice mix of MIKE's and TED's.
DE - We're going all-in on a top DE through rounds 4 and that's it! We're getting one of these guys (Arik Armstead, Marcus Hardison, Mario Edwards, Xavier Cooper, Henry Anderson or David Parry)
OL - This position moved up the board late. Again, same theme...grab a top C, T or G early or very very late (La'el Collins, Donovan Smith, Jamil Douglas or Ali Marpet)
OLB - If there is a BPA here we can't pass up early, we take him...otherwise, we can grab one in the 3rd, 5th (Lynch) or 7th. The top ones include (Randy Gregory, Alvin "Bud" Dupree, Lorenzo Mauldin or Lynden Trail)
CB - If Trae Waynes falls to 15, we nail him or if we trade back we could be intrigued by (Jalen Collins, Byron Jones or Marcus Peters) we may go that route...if not, we go later like Dontae Johnson last year.
RB - Not even looking at one until the 3R (Jay Ajayi or Timothy (TJ) Yeldon).
TE - 3R or nothing (Devin Funchess or Clive Walford)!
FS - 4R or nothing (Kurtis Drummond or Jordan Richards)!
QB - Logan must like Garrett Grayson and Sean Mannion a lot. If Baalke doesn't grab one in the 2nd or 3rd, we look at a developmental UDFA guy like Devin Gardner 6'4" 205 4.50.

Overall: Heavy focus on rounds 1-4 with NT, WR, ILB, DE, OL & CB, If we can't grab these BPA/Need picks early, we will grab these positions on the far back end of the draft. Conversely, OLB and RB seem to be viewed evenly reviewed in rounds 1, 3, 5 & 7. Finally, NT is only viewed for R1, QB in R2, TE's in R3 & FS in R4.
