Good read, we better have changed our defensive game plan..or we might get burnt
Good read for sure. We have to get pressure on Rodgers early and often.
yah the game plan is gonna have to be different for sure.
How come I still think we beat them just based on personnel? The game will come down to Rodgers slinging it (duh). Not their running game. Not anything fancy.
So unless the Packers try something completely new and create mismatches (LB's on WR's), then I still don't see how they'll do it. But in order to do that, they have to be able to establish the run, which the 49ers should be able to stop without stacking the box.
If they line up 4-5 wide and go no huddle, that's harder for us to stop in my opinion than anything else they will throw at us. They have four WR's that can really play. That means you have either a LB in Bowman or Willis on a WR or the Niners have to put Perrish Cox on the field. Or if they suddenly get Jermichael Finley super-involved, then that could be a problem in terms of accounting for every receiver and the TE. But then that leaves them susceptible to the pass rush.
I don't know. It just seems like Green Bay would have to do something extremely specific/new to change up how we will play them. Maybe they pass more to their RB's this game? More WR screens? No huddle/hurry-up? Not sure.
I want to know how in the world are the Packers gonna stop our offense. We will get stops, but will they?? 49ers 34 - 24!!
Well Clay Matthews is always a problem, so you have to account for him first and foremost.
Charles Woodson is back. He's in the slot a bit and also playing some safety. There is definitely some weakness there, not because Woodson is "bad," but because that whole situation is fluid depending on their defensive play call.
Tramon Williams is a good corner... used to be on the road to greatness, but then regressed a bit. He'll cover Crabtree. Crabs should have some success there, but it won't be simple.
The Packers like to blitz from different parts of the field. If OLB Erik Walden can get going on the other side, that will help them, but it's not like he's a world beater. But it will be all scheme for them in that regard. They'll blitz corners and use Dezman Moses & Walden on the field at the same time.
It would be REALLY nice to have Kyle or Mario at the moment, but we will settle for VD and Delanie instead. Where the Packers can be hurt is in the middle of the field, and that's where the 49ers will use VD & Delanie to create mismatches. Any time you get VD or Delanie matched up on by the generally average AJ Hawk, you exploit that. Any time you get CB Casey Hayward or MD Jennings matched up in the slot on VD or Delanie, you exploit that. Crabs & Tramon will be fighting on the outside all day. Randy Moss will be matched up on a beatable-but-capable Sam Shields. The rest of their guys in the secondary beyond aged Charles Woodson? Not a huge deal.
And if you run away from Raji, you can run pretty easily on them as well (though Ryan Pickett is a decent DT). I mean, that's been a given for them all year and years prior as well.
So I guess I'm saying their defense kinda sucks, but they do have some studs you have to account for. It's just staying away from their playmakers, accounting for Matthews, and finding mismatches.
