1st preseason game doesn't mean a whole lot.

I get the feeling JH is in love with the added dimension that ck gives the team. This is mostly conjecture on my part but I thought His reactions to Cks run and roll out throw were telling.

JH called the competition fluid and I think that is the perfect word and that's why we see JJ going third this week.

And as I recall, you saw Kaep a few times in college, came away unimpressed and were disappointed We drafted him. You're gonna give him every chance to prove you right.

Unimpressed, yes, because he relied heavily on what he did as an individual and not what he did with his team. Vince Young had a much successful career, yet, hes now a career back up in this league.

And a borderline nut-job, why on earth would you compare him to Kaep?

If Josh Johnson is showing good competition to Tolzien, I think it might be a good idea to trade Kaepernick. Not due to any lack on Kaepernick's part but due to the fact, he would be a fairly polished qb and some teams badly need a quality qb. We could possibly get a first rounder or a swap of first rounders plus a second and solve the problem of 4 qbs.I think if Josh Johnson is viable then Tolzien and Johnson should be enough. Kaepernick also would be able to start wheras in SF, he would be a backup for at least 4 years and face stiff competition from Tolzien.

Vince Young doesn't have his head on right and as evidence by the years in the NFL, is one of those who is not moldable. CK is moldable in JH's eyes and as I said JH loves his athleticism. While you and others were not impressed, JH seems to be. They watched more tape of him and saw things that we didn't, like if he did it on his own or was it because of the line play or wr play? Vince did not pass for and run for 2100/1000+ yards for three straight years. Although I hate this word his upside to JH is great.

Why would we keep Johnson who is older than Kaep? Especially since Kaep is doing better than he is and has more upside. Also, Kaep is not polished yet, he hasn't shown anything in a regular season game. Why would anyone give up a first? Plus no one is going to give up a draft pick, much less one as high as a 1rst or Second at this stage of the season. You only do so when you are a player away and that player has proven himself and is disgruntled, if the player is disgruntled, you can had him for less. Even if he has a great pre, bringing him in now, is a waste since he had no training camp in your own system.

Because they have similar playing styles only VY was much more successful in the college game. Granted Young is a headcase, but they are cut from the same athletic mold.

No one is going to give up a first round pick for an overdrafted project qb. Our best hope is that Harbaugh can mold him into a real qb. I have faith in the coach's ability to rise to that challenge.

VY "much more successful"? VYs junior year is the only one he had a higher passer rating than CK.

Regardless, that talent and playing style is a big reason why VY has helped an NFL team win some games and has two pro bowls under his belt. Imagine what VY would've done with Alex Smiths character and work ethic.... Now you're imagining Colin Kaepernick.

I think Harbaugh imagines what he could have done as a pro qb if defenses had to keep one "spy" player assigned to the qb to prevent a run. Harbaugh also likes players from smaller non traditional powerhouse schools. I think he relishes the underdog role and wants to show off his coaching skills by creating an evolving offense.

Present offense- 3 TE sets, heavy sets, ground and pound. Alex Smith at qb, take fewer shots.

Future offense- Spread attack with multiple WR sets and two RB's withe speed, no FB. This plays to CK's strenghs.

CK is clearly not ready nor the ndl stage he still has the tendency to be a run first qb although he is fast he is not agile or overly powerfule like vick or cam or even VY the other rushing QBs. He is great when we call a rollout however hos pocket passing is a lot to be desired. He really needs to improve it a lot if he wants to be the starter
