spot on. d thomas could have made our defense very very good and bono or montana would have done very well. you know that young would never have done the great things in kansas city that he did here had we pulled that trigger and made the trade,, i love young but i would still have done that deal

We never leave the 3-4 with Thomas and the defense is never re-tooled to a 4-3
That alone would have slowed Dallas down

but if you look at the three nfc championship games young lost our defense secondary was torch remember 23 pope against freeman & the packers and the cowboys & alvin harper , we never had a pass rush nor did we have a secondary , and remember adam walker's fumble ,against the packers we did not have a running game so yeah young got the bad end of the niner dynasty and
Bono is a very competent QB, but let's remember that he only lasted two seasons as the Chiefs' starter. Young might have struggled in 1991, but from 1992 on, he was a great QB. On the declining years of the 49ers, he was often the difference maker in many games. For example in the 1998 game against the upstart Colts (and a young Manning), the 49ers had a very bad day early, going into the 4th quarter trailing 31-17. Young with a bad foot led the team offense on to score 17 unanswered points to win the game.
