Only thing that bothers me is the inconcistency of our passing game. We're gonna need that to improve. Other than that injuries are always a concern but barring that we can win the super bowl. That's crazy for me say even say but we can do it. We have to keep getting better, we haven't arrived anywhere yet.

Anyways he was lights out in the second half in the Lions game. Oh wait no he wasn't. That was the worst half he had all season. But wait ,that does not matter,he threw the game winning TD so it's all good now right?. But wait he also threw a INT that let the Lions back into the game when he could have closed them out. But wait....ah forget it that's Alex. Not consistent Alex.
I listened to him today on ESPN Radio and he pretty much said it himself that he just is not consistent and he needs to get better. Sound familiar ? It should he has been singing the same"verse" in almost every interview his whole career. Hey even Alex admits (AGAIN) he needs to get better. (BROKEN RECORD)
As someone already stated, he is ranked #8 in the league in QB play and has a record of 5-1. THAT IS A FACT.
He made plays when it mattered and has not cost us a single game this year. THAT IS A FACT.
Even if he said he was not consistent, where does it say that he is the weakest link of this team? By who??? Link???
Although our passing game is ranked 30th, it is due to our running game being utilized more. We are currently ranked #5 and everyone knows we run the ball more vs. pass. THAT IS A FACT.
Those statements I listed can be found anywhere on the net in regards this years Alex Smith. ANYWHERE and THAT IS A FACT.
Now as far as your ASSUMPTION that he is the weakest link on this team, where are your facts?
- 98
Do you ever wonder why we are ranked 30th in passing besides the fact that we have Gore?
This is a passing league and as much as Harbaugh is in many ways a run first to set up the pass coach, this still is a passing league. You ever think that the reason why a WEST COAST OFFENSE looks less like a WEST COAST OFFENSE and more like a RUN FIRST OFFENSE might be because a coach is managing ( controlling..not trusting) his QB ?
Hearsay. Those are all opinions from you. You said he is the weakest link on this team and I asked you to support it with facts/stats. I am still waiting.
No one said AS is in the elite pantheon of QB but he is playin like one his year. No one said he will be a HOF type of QB but he sure is winning games for us this year. The fact that you and sus cannot see that he is NOT the weakest link to this team is sad and born out of hatred you guys have for AS.

They don't like facts. They cling to "past perception".... Like a lot of my friends who don't believe Alex is good yet and argue it with me. They never saw the 49ers THIS YEAR of course.

inability to pass will be our downfall. Harbaugh's smart coaching has kept us in the game, because we don't try and gun it out even when we're down double digits, but coaches will see the chinks in our armor on tape as the year continues. I think passing is the most important part of this league... fortunately we do everything else very well or even superbly, so we're a good team. But that is an area that needs improvement - and not all on Alex either, our WRs are pretty terrible with the injuries.

The passing game at the NFL level is complicated. It takes time in a new system to build a decent passing attack. I am very confident that as the season progresses our passing attack will improve. It is a lengthy process.
Unfortenately for Alex Smith haters this process will require a lot of patience. Somthing that they clearly do not posses.

Would love to see us play the Pats. No matter how it came out, watching the coaching chess match would be worth the price of admission. SB? Green Bay is playing lights out, so much so that they almost look bored blowing teams away. Their weakness is pass defence, not exactly what we exploit well. But, with the weapons, and enough time to get it right, and what the hell, going ON THE ROAD, anything is possible.

Everything you wrote that I have hi-lited in BOLD and ITALIC is garbage.
I never said you or anyone else claimed AS was elite or pantheon. And you are an idiot if you think he is. And just because I don't like the QB for the SanFrancisco 49ers does not mean I have hatred for him.
So why are you a MODERATOR again?

Okay, throw insults when I call you out on your view. I asked for facts to support your views and you resort to this? LMAO!
Where did I say YOU said those things? Re-read what I wrote. Slowly. Carefully.
The fact that YOU pointed out that YOU DO NOT LIKE our QB holds weight. It basically says that you already made up your mind, your opinion of the guy, may he be doing well or not. But let's not go there and get back to the question I asked of you, even with your insults and all.
Now read this carefully:
YOU STATED THAT ALEX SMITH WAS THE WEAKEST LINK IN THIS TEAM.
I said NO and I asked you to prove your point as to why you think he is with facts and stats.
Again, I AM STILL WAITING.
As for why I'm a Moderator of this site, I don't know. Could be my good looks but a lot of people would say otherwise since I'm one ugly mofo... But that's beside the point.
Instead of hurling insults, stay with the topic....

So your saying Cam Newton is GOD?
Your saying Sam Bradford in his first year was a GOD?
So now what are you saying?
Alex needs a better head coach?

IMO Alex Smith is one of the two or three guys--if not the guy--that we cannot afford to lose. So he isn't the weak link. He has room for improvement, and I still don't know what his ceiling is--though I have a feeling we're near it--but he isn't the weak link. Weak links hold teams back, and Smith is one of the reasons for our success--he commands the huddle, he makes calls at the line, he keeps the offense poised in tough situations, and he makes plays.

Mr Moderator don't flatter yourself into thinking I don't have an answer as to why Alex Smith is not the answer for the 49ers. Just look up his career stats. it's not that hard. Just "Google" ALEX SMITH 49ers Career stats. It's easy try it.

The fact that this question can even be asked on this forum with any sincerity is amazing.
My answer, is yes. It is obvious that we have the talent, and our coaches are putting the players in positions to win, every play, every match up. Doesn't mean anything is guaranteed of course, but we have a chance in every game

Oh... Those. Good things they don't matter in HOW HE'S PLAYING THIS YEAR, isn't it? I mean, damn, with the way he played so far THIS YEAR (which is the topic at hand to begin with), we're lucky to be where were at, huh? 5-1 record, 8th ranked QB in the league and such?
But yeah, you're right. He is the weakest link in this team... We should lose the guy.
He iz te suxor!!!
