One thing David Carr is already better than Alex at

Nicely said, the off season, time of the "what ifs".
2010 is Smiths final bout, If he does well we will extend him and we have our QB of the future. If he does not do well then his ass is gone and were back to trying to find a QB....

End Thread

Smith > Carr

Not a Smith supporter but no way I agree. Being under center is not as big a deal as some make it out to be. That's not area Smith struggles at.

Accuracy, batted balls, footwork are areas to key in on. Arm strength is about the same.

Disagree all you want, but you're wrong. Smith has always struggled under center and it's not hard to see it. He can't handle the multitasking involved with taking snaps from under center. That's why we saw the shotgun spread so often last season. Even the coaching staff has noted his inability under center.
Gotta love 49er fans.

What other fans would sell out their starting qb for David Carr?

Hell, it already sounds like Carr wants a starting job more than Alex Smith. I wouldn't honestly be surprised if Carr's determination/leadership/play could swoon Singletary into making him a starter, I'm not s**ttin'.

Chances are that Alex Smith WILL fail. If not, he'll be the first number one drafted BUST in NFL history to turn a career around in year 6 on a team. With that said, the REAL question is whether or not Ninerbrass will finally get a clue and find a viable QB for this roster come 2012. Im not dogging David Carr, as we dont know how he'll play under center; but I think it's about time we get some people on this roster with proven track records.

Shouldnt you be in hibernation until July ?

Are you effing kidding me? You're obsessed with what you percieve as the fact Alex Smith will suck, yet you say you're not dogging David Carr and you don't know how he'll play under center?

You haven't seen enough of David Carr? Really? Get help.

see you even confuse yourself.

Not really. If you read my post, I clearly said that I would expect Sing/McCloughlan to seek a bonified quarterback next offseason if Alex Smith fails. In other words, even if Carr takes over and has success, I wouldnt buy it as if he's the next heir apparent. I wont attack him directly cause I havent seen him play our our team with our offense. Who knows ? Maybe he can make good receivers look........well.......good. As opposed to Alex Smith, who pretty much turned semi-good players into garbage (Antonio Bryant, D.Jackson, A.Lelie).

Bryant had a decent year and f**ked everything up himself, Jackson decided to drop almost every ball thrown to him, and Lelie never really saw the field because somehow he pissed off Sullivan.

Yeah, blame all that on Smith too. At this point, why not?

I guess it was just coincidence that all of the above put up pretty good numbers right before they teamed up with Smith. And while we're at it, it must be coincidence as well that our receivers always rank towards the top in dropped passes when Alex is under center. I guess his arm is too strong for our guys to handle. Right ?

See, I knew you could be logical when you want to.

And I love the fans who can't further qualify "starting QB"

The Falcons starting QB is Matt Ryan
The Packers starting QB is Aaron Rodger
The 49ers starting QB is Alex Smith

see the difference?

Actually if you want to get down to it,

You qualified him for me by saying he is, and by grouping him with other starting quarterbacks.

We can sit here and start a Smith vs. Carr argument, but it doesn't matter.

As you already pointed out:

The 49ers starting QB is Alex Smith

Be faithful.

Smoking Pole.....
I am not an Alexcuser.

However, I am a Carrpologist and I feel Carr always got the worst situation on the Texans being sacked 70+ times in one year and that Carr has more ability than Alex Smith and could win out the job.

This Carrpologist is not ruling him out as our starter.

But concentrate on your comment....."would sell out their starting qb for....."

My point is you have to be more specific, other wise your ridicule does not quite work.

Some starting QB's should not be replaced by anyone.
Some starting QB's should only be replaced by a clear upgrade
Some starting QB's just need to be replaced, anyone else will do, there is nothing to lose....literally

Poll NFL fans, they would place Smith on the 3rd group most often

So ____________ sold out for David Carr

but

Alex Smith sold out for David Carr. Well, that just isn't that ridiculous.

Yeah, big difference.

I didn't watch Ryan play but Smiths' numbers aren't even close to how the games were actually played. Too many games where Gore and the Defense was keeping us above water where the passing game was nowhere to be found and extremely inconsistent besides the dump-offs to Gore.

I will acknowledge that Smith showed some better things this year but he was still missing and he was still not accurate in terms of NFL level. If he isn't accurate up to this point, I have a feeling we will get what we have seen in that area.
