You are glad that a player who played well in the preseason is gone? What a great 9er fan!

In the preseason against other guys who got cut, The niners obviously dont think as highly of they guy as some people do, yes he is fast, but the RBs we kept were the right ones to keep, there is more to being a running back than just running Kory Sheets cant block for s**t. A kid needs to work on his game, maybe he will get his chance but to me he is just another thomas clayton

1) He's not gone. He's on the practice squad. Nobody else wanted him, just like in the draft.

2) I don't want to speak for him, but I THINK what he's saying is that he's glad he's gone to the PS because it will cause the hysteria in ninertalk over an UFA with a wildly limited skill set to die down.

The biggest problem with Sheets is he doesn't offer anything else other than 1-2 carries a game that a 3rd string back usually offers.

I know people want to compare him to Washington, Bradshaw or Sproles, but they had value as a return man that helped them secure their job. Sheets couldn't win either of those jobs so he goes to the PS and I find it very unlikely that anyone will pick him up. People are crying over nothing. If injuries happen he'll get a shot. No different then what would have happened had be been on the roster.

Nothing personal but apparently none of the other teams in the league read this thread.

Maybe it is time to give more credit to the coaches who see these guys every day and to their judgement on limited-skills guys like Sheets.

If he clears he'll make the practice squad... but Sheets isn't ready for the show. He couldn't block or pick up the blitz this preseason. The last time the 9ers forced the issue and took a player that couldn't block and pick up the blitz, they lost Steve Young for ever - Thanks a lot Mr. Phillips.

"Mr" is a sign of respect, it should never be used when referring to that piece of trash. When he wasn't beating women or running down kids in his car, he was on the football field daydreaming about it...and not picking up the blitz.

Classic!
What's with this blocking thing? The fastest running back here in years, the only one I can remember who could actually turn the corner, and our coaches would put him in to block?

Why? Wouldn't any normal coach devise plays where the big guys would block and fast guy would run or go out for passes?

He may have been a victim of the smash mouth philosophy.

Every running back in the league must be able to block. That is the thing that separates many starters from backups.

Once the defensive team learns a back is a weak blocker, they immediately know he will be getting the ball and adjust the defense accordingly.

To the people that want Robinson cut:
There has to be a reason the n=Niners extended Robinsons contract. He is a team captain, has tremendous leadership abilities and is probably the most versatile player(HB,FB, WR, wildcat QB, KR and special teams ace) on the team.

Robinson as a HB is mediocre, FB mediocre, wildcat QB lmao please our tazer is a joke, special teams cmon thats why we kept Ulbrich. As far as KR duties we have Spurloch, Battle, Rossum and Walker. Gore is injury prone with his style of play and Coffee is the same kind of runner. It is very likely that in our system/OL that both get banged up and that would leave us very short handed. Sheets isnt like Clayton who went down with arm tackles vs scrubs. Sheets had alot of potential and it was easiy seen with every rep he had. Personally I highly doubt he clears waivers and he should have had MRobs spot of the roster. He just has that much more talent at a position of need than MRob when youre running a power run system with a injury prone RB being your feature RB. More so when you look at our passing game which is as ugly as the Raiders run D. This is 1 cut that should have never happened as theyre risking way too much when we have so little on offense. Ill be praying that he makes it thru waivers unclaimed as this kid is 10x teh RB that Clayton was.

If you are down to your 3rd HB, then your season probably isn't going anywhere. You haven't seen MRob run the wildcat in the preseason. Robinson is your special teams CAPTAIN, he can block and return.. There would be a huge leadership void on the team if you cut MRob and added Sheets. Don't get me wrong i would love to have kept Sheets but not at the expense of MRob. Sheets needs to develop his blitz pickup and blocking technique, Robinson is an excellent blocker. Give sheets a year, then maybe.

Season would suck if we are down to our 3rd RB and he ends up being MROB. We have more than enough good ST players to replace Mrob captain or not its no biggie imo. Wildcat/Tazer on this team would be embarassing. We neither have the coaching, skill players or OL to run it like Miami does. Which was obvious each time they tried this preseason. Leadership void lol hes a special teams guy buddy. We can easily slap that C on any other STs guy easy enough. Hes pretty useless as a rb even at fb cause his blocking is mediocre. If he was such a good wait excellent blocker Norris would still be jobless as we would have our starting FB in him and we wouldnt be looking for another FB on the waiver wire. I really like MROB too but at the expense of a change of pace guy who imho is a threat every time he has the ball no way. Not for this team, this offense and with Gores injury history. Im happy as hell we have him on our PS squad and id bet money he see some time this year and ends up moving up the chart next season.
Kory Sheets = Maurice Hicks 2.0

...and the choir said, "Amen!"

When all is said and done, Kory Sheets may have an exceptional career, but not this year and not unless the Niners cut him loose from the practice squad.

There's a reason why the coaches coach and the fans post and the Kory Sheets "controversy" demonstrates why this is. Too many fans react emotionally where if a coach does he won't be one for long.

Even that would be a reach. Hicks was a very good ST guy. Sheets isn't, at least to this point.

He has much less value to other teams because he doesn't know their playbook.

He knows our offense and can be called up as a backup RB or return guy. That is why he is on the practice squad.

Good ST guy, sub-par RB guy.
Sheets and Miller made the practice squad
