Taylor Mays traded to the Bengals

Hope it's not an ego issue with Baalke! If the Vikings asked about Mays perhaps the 9ers are trying to see how much interest they can build up to get more from Minn. Doubt that Singletary has enough clout to make a deal or even push for a deal unless the management agrees with him.

Lulz.
Weasel Turd > Singletary
Pathetic.
Singletary obviously thought Mays was a linebacker that he could coach.
Him and Baalke's conversation - Sing: "There's no WAY he's a DB!"

Where in 2012, save only 163K, taking a 754K Dead Hit.
I dont know if the rumor was false or not. Just I dont know also if its worth dealing him yet. Unless he is terrible out their. He wasnt great at USC IMO. Sucks in coverage.
He is a better fit at OLB IMO.
And wouldnt get more than a 5th for him in 2012.
the 49th pick I believe in 2010 for a 2012 5th or lower, which would be like what pick 160-254. Depended on comp picks and such.
Thanks for the breakdown.
It really illustrates that unless some team is offering a shockingly sweet trade deal there's no advantage to trading Mays. Other than saving a roster spot. But are we really so in love with these undrafted WRs and DBs that we'd want to give up on a high pick in order to keep one?
And I just can't believe that any team would offer us a good deal for Mays after we seemingly showed our hand like that. GMs play this stuff like a poker game for a reason.
This story just does not add up to me....

I suppose the team could be doing what it think is right by Mays. It's very obvious that Mays does not fit into any long term plans. The fact that they're trading him suggests that they don't think that they can develop him either.
I only hope that this decision is not one as a result of Baalke's ego.

Seems like all Singletary knows how to do is throw a tantrum.
NO, he knows one other thing, How to pull his pants down in front of grown men.

I think when you select a player that high, i think 2nd(49th) is high, and he appears out of position, you wont ever see anything close again to what u drafted.
I dont blame Baalke, I thought this was a sing pick, even back when drafted. It didnt make sense, taking Mays not just that high, but at all.

We should put that guy at linebacker and give him a chance, just to see what happens. If he can't do it, release him.

I still don't now wtf to make of this. I do know that I trust Harbaugh and his coaching staff and if he's not someone they want around I guess I'm ok with it. I just really wish we didn't waste a 2nd round pick on him. Lots of speed and size, I think if he could play LB someone would have already tried it. Why not keep him around as a ST player?

Agreed that you hope this isn't Baalke waving his dick around, getting rid of a guy that's not "his" and is doing it to prove a point or something. Tough to pretty much give up and dump a 2nd rounder like that and i also agree that it was poorly played to send a mass email around the league rather than approaching certain teams in a more discreet fashion.
It's obvious management doesn't want Mays but i wonder what the coaching staff really feels. Could be there's another factor we don't know about (character, attitude, work ethic) but the guy does seem to have some pretty tangible skills.
They sure are talking up Whitner though, aren't they?

Only way I won't be upset if they trade Mays is if they get a player AND draft pick in return. If they straight get a low round pick I'll be pissed.
In the end I wouldn't trade Mays, much rather hold onto his potential.
Coaches always say a player can't do this or can't do that, but there are plenty of examples out there that prove otherwise. Coaches need to do there job and coach.

Probably went like this...
Sing: I want Mays! I don't care about his dad-gum coverage skills.
Baalke: He is not going to succeed in the NFL or it is too much of a project for this team.
*Sings unzips pants*
Baalke: Fine, we will select Mays!
