It's frustrating but I don't expect the niners to make a big splash trade after Buckner.

Did you think Buckner was a splash trade? 9ers don't make splash trades for veterans. Sure they gave up a few picks for CMC but that's hardly a splash trade, more like balling on a budget trade.

What is a "splash trade" then? I'd say trading for an eventual Offensive Player of the Year as a huge cannonball splash.

Young player that cost two 1st round picks is what I consider a splash trade.

So in recent seasons, here are what you'd consider splash trades: Sauce Gardner, Micah Parson, and anyone else? When I think splash trade, I think more about the player coming back, not the package being given up. CMC is a splash trade to me because of the quality of the player coming back.

CMC went for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and a 5th. By your definition, this is not a splash trade, but had the 49ers given up two 1st rounders instead, then it becomes a splash trade? meh

CMC was a good trade no doubt about it. But I look at that more like a value trade more than anything. According to the draft value chart they basically could've just given up one 1st round pick and it would've equaled same but they found their way around that.

Wouldn't you call a trade for Jefferey Simmons and Dexter Lawrence splash trades?

Yes, I consider Simmons and Lawrence splash trades, because they are both high quality players. Lawrence didn't get traded for two 1st rounders so I guess you don't think that's a splash trade. All good, we can agree to disagree.

I still consider it a splash trade, that 9ers wouldn't have made. Like I said Lynch just doesn't spend 1st round picks on veterans.

Lynch has said himself that the package he offered up for KMack to the Raiders was better than the package that CHI offered. So it's possible that Lynch will dive in for the splash if the player is right. KMack went for: two 1s, one 3rd, and one 6th.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/john-lynch-says-49ers-were-ready-to-trade-more-than-bears-for-khalil-mack
Lynch then confirmed that he considers the offer he made better than the offer the Raiders got.

Two factors that still happened my friend. One Raiders don't make trades with the 9ers. Two, they still didn't end up spending a 1st round pick for a veteran no matter what he said. Until we know exactly what Lynch meant by this hard to determine what they would've given up. For all we know it could've been DeForest Buckner and a two 2nd round picks.

Look at splash trades like this, you could get any player in the NFL for a 1st round pick or two. Could you get any player for a 2nd and 3rd round pick?

Yeah that's fair, Lynch may have thought his package was better even though it didn't contain two 1s. Nowhere did he say that his proposal included two 1s. Getting back to Wilson, I won't pretend to watch NYJ games because I don't. If you think Wilson is worth two 1s, then I get why you want Lynch to offer that up.

Nope I don't think Wilson is worth two 1st round picks. That's what it will probably take to convince NYJ to trade him, but I wouldn't give that up. Most I'd give up is a 1st and a 3rd this year. I might give up a 2nd next year too, if that's what it took to outbid a team.

ah ok. NY listed a bunch of recently traded high profile WRs and the average cost was one 1st + one 3rd.

I can't think of one WR I'd trade two 1st round picks for. Justin Jefferson, J'Mar Chase and Puka Nacua aren't even worth two 1st round picks. IMO

That's crazy to me. The odds of you getting a player of the caliber of any of those guys with a 1st round pick are pretty low. Especially if you're picking in the 20s.

Yeah one of those number 1s could be anything. You could get a Pearsall or a Garrett Wilson outta them.

And, if I'm not mistaken wasn't there an issue with Quinnen Williams being disgruntled or something. Williams though when motivated was a difference maker in some games that I saw.

Sauce was a stud in NJ. I've watched plenty of those s**t games lol. They literally just paid him. QW was one of the best in his prime DTs in football….they're disgruntled because the Jets blow and will always blow. Wilson may act like a good soldier for a little longer…he said he wants to win and that s**t isn't gonna happen there.

Also we (and jet fans) are all acting like Wilson is some in his prime Calvin Johnson type of WR. IMO in the right offense he can be very good….he's not Julio jones chase or JJ. His numbers are more in line with a scary Terry type, than those guys.

IMO QW and Sauce were higher end talents (when traded) at their position than Wilson is amoung his peers.

Sorry my brotha but didn't you put Aiyuk above Terry? So would you say Aiyuk is better than Wilson if he didn't go full R?

His production is pretty similar to Jamarr Chase and JJ… in seasons they didn't play with high quality QBs (due to injury etc). Having 1100 yards with Zach Wilson at QB puts him in elite territory, lol.

Holy smokes. Next year they could pull off the NBA sign and trade.
Sign him and Breece to a new extension with a big signing bonus, trade them to a cap strapped team for a haul, eat the $80m in dead cap to get premium picks.

Also worth noting, if the Jets trade Wilson, they may have trouble reaching the salary cap floor for the 2027-2030 window because most of their team talent will be "stuck" on rookie deals.
Then it will be hard to attract big FAs because the team is likely struggling the next two years. Then all their young talent is due second contracts around at the same time(just outside of the measurement period)

They have no clue who's declaring for the draft this yr and if they can actually get the top QB. What's the point in paying a WR all that cash just to watch him waste away on a s**t team with no one to throw him the ball or call real plays? They have two young TEs and two other WRs on rookie deals.

Their rebuild isn't a one yr thing. Wilson is gonna request a trade at some point in the next yr while they continue to lose. Go get a high pick for this draft AND in 2028.

They have 4 young receivers, but why get rid of a 5th?
Draft a QB this year( we will say without trading up)
Then a LT in the top 10.
A RT in the late teens early 20's.
Draft a guard in the 2nd or 3rd.

You now have got (hopefully) a talented QB with some skilled protection and a plethora of weapons.
Oh and $85 million under the cap, with $135m under the next year.

Then in 2 years, when the QB is settled and extensions are needed you can then trade Wilson for a 1st.

It does not make sense to sell on Wilson for anything short of the Gardner or Williams absurd value offers. Making all the other historical trade comparisons irrelevant.

He is not Tyreek Hill, but they are not the cap strapped Chiefs.
He is not Randy Moss, who's antics on a penny pinching team made him unwanted. Then was also traded for a 4th 2 years later. Was that also market setting?
Waddle was the opposite of the Jets situation with $150m in dead cap this year and $50m next year.

Bring Diaby or sweat, and Downs and get bosa off the couch and we will have made all the reasonable moves we can make.

Otherwise we are not trying hard enough..

Chargers aren't trading with us to mack should be off the table, were not going to trade for wilson after ayuik, stribling, pearsall all high picks... That's effectively like eating crow and saying you suck at drafting which this FO will never do...

An article today says the 9ers have $34MM in cap space. But I think 2027 they have a lot more cap space due to the BA contract credits.

the article also says theyre $31M OVER the cap next season without knowing the 2027 cap increase

I think the article says that they're $31 M over even after the projected cap increrase. It says if they roll the entire $34M over they will have a little less than $3M to spend. If they sign any more players this year and part of that salary carries over then they will be over the cap. Naturally they'll do some restructuring but they aren't likely to have much cap space even after that. Especially if they sign anyone with a fairly large salary or try to extend DBuck.

Theres no way Bosa will be on the books for 50 mil next year. Also I'm pretty sure we get some cap savings from Aiuyk. We can restructure guys like Purdy for massive savings too.

Those 3 moves right there get you to 50 mil in cap space. It won't be an issue

Aiyuk's release will save $33M. It's true you can restructure some contracts but you can't do that forever. Eventually you have to pay. Creating space next year just pushes the problem down the road. They'll need money to sign draft picks and any free agent they want to sign toreplace guys that leave.

The bottom line is the 49ers have too many highly paid aging players. They only have 6 draft picks next season so they'll need to make the most of them.
