I think you have to have some kind of injury, and you would still have to pay him. Better to fine and suspend for conduct detrimental over what almost a year and a half could be a lot.

The NFL operates at a snails pace on this stuff. I'm still wondering when the 2 Rams starters are getting their due for the stuff they pulled on women. We all know football players need more b***h slapping than those in baseball. Fans don't pay to see the refs perform but sometimes you gotta draw the line. Think Roger Clemens in that playoff game.

Goodell knows he works for the owners and the Aiyuk drama puts proper pressure on him.

Not quite sure, but if they can it would be a short term thing. Teams cannot suspend players without pay indefinitely. I believe the max is 4 weeks.

They will recoup a portion of his signing bonus proration for last season and this season... proportional to the time he missed and clearly defined in the CBA.

They also had salary cap insurance which refunded them a small portion of money after his injury. The remaining portions of his signing bonus allocations will still hit the cap. It is what it is.
