I am done with Melvin. I get that this team has holes, and has all season, but Melvin has been more of a problem than a solution IMO.
I would like to find a RF and a 2B. The team seems committed to Bailey, and while he isnt my choice for the catcher for the forseeable future, I realize he probably isnt going anywhere. But RF is a glaring hole. Last year people in here flamed me for saying Tyler Fitzgerald probably wasnt the guy for the future, and look how that turned out. Rubs, I am ok with allowing Schmitt to compete for that job, but I believe that much like Fitzgerald, he isnt a long term solution for the position either.
Not sure why, Bailey is pure garbage, been saying it all season, he is holding the team back, at least part of it, should try to find a catcher who can hit
I'm sure they would love to find a catcher like Cal Raleigh that can hit and defend but there aren't a lot of guys like that. Hardly any catchers taken in this year's draft.
I was starting to lessen my stance on Bailey because he has been serviceable at the plate the last month or so. So I was holding out hope that he would turn it around and at least be a .240 hitter. But after striking out looking 3 times yesterday, all that good will he built up over the last month is completely gone.
We dont need a Cal Raleigh. We need an B+ defender and a C+ hitter. An A defender and a D- hitter isnt going to cut it. Those are backup type players.
Let's assume they get a C+ hitter who's a B+ defender. Is that going to turn this team around? Is it going to make up for all the times they fail to get runners home when there are no outs or one out? It's not just Bailey. This entire team needs to change their hitting approach with 2 strikes and runners on base.
They need more guys like Flores and Smith who know how to put the ball in play instead of sriking out or popping up.
