I would like to find a RF and a 2B. The team seems committed to Bailey, and while he isnt my choice for the catcher for the forseeable future, I realize he probably isnt going anywhere. But RF is a glaring hole. Last year people in here flamed me for saying Tyler Fitzgerald probably wasnt the guy for the future, and look how that turned out. Rubs, I am ok with allowing Schmitt to compete for that job, but I believe that much like Fitzgerald, he isnt a long term solution for the position either.

Not sure why, Bailey is pure garbage, been saying it all season, he is holding the team back, at least part of it, should try to find a catcher who can hit

I'm sure they would love to find a catcher like Cal Raleigh that can hit and defend but there aren't a lot of guys like that. Hardly any catchers taken in this year's draft.

I was starting to lessen my stance on Bailey because he has been serviceable at the plate the last month or so. So I was holding out hope that he would turn it around and at least be a .240 hitter. But after striking out looking 3 times yesterday, all that good will he built up over the last month is completely gone.

We dont need a Cal Raleigh. We need an B+ defender and a C+ hitter. An A defender and a D- hitter isnt going to cut it. Those are backup type players.

Let's assume they get a C+ hitter who's a B+ defender. Is that going to turn this team around? Is it going to make up for all the times they fail to get runners home when there are no outs or one out? It's not just Bailey. This entire team needs to change their hitting approach with 2 strikes and runners on base.

They need more guys like Flores and Smith who know how to put the ball in play instead of sriking out or popping up.

I wouldn't call him a A defender either, he has whiffed on throws to second this year multiple times

His defensive numbers are actually the same or slightly better than they were last year when he won a gold glove. His hitting makes people more critical of any mistake he makes behind the plate.

find a RH catcher who mashes lefties and we are good there

Yah just go on Ebay and pick one up. Good catchers are everywhere.

no but 2B, C, RF are the glaring needs for this team, thats where I would start.

They're treying several guys at RF and 2b as the season winds down. Unless some catcher suddnenly becomes avaialble they're going to stay with Bailey for now. He's not an offensive threat but his defense and then way he handles pitchers will keep him on the roster.

Yeah, no s**t.

I am talking about what needs to happen from now until next season.

well naturally to restore the team to it's old glory posey must undo all the moves he has made in his tenure so far

i was being sarcastic and trying to poke fun at what ppl are asking for. ppl are asking he fire melvin, who he just extended. ppl are asking he trade chap or adames, and he signed both long term. so ppl don't seem to like his moves, and they want him to undo his moves, but they steadfastly won't criticize him directly, cuz he's buster posey.

he doesn't need to undo all the moves. but yeah i think its pretty obvious the melvin extension was a sign of good faith to him and to reinforce he thinks hes the guy but that was clearly a mistake. Moves can make sense at the time but you never know how things will play out. You have to adjust. Posey knows that. Posey has done nothing to make me worry about him.

Is that going to turn the team around? No.

Is that going to eliminate one of the players who is an automatic out in our lineup? Yes.

No one is saying he doesnt deserve to be on the roster. Some of us just believe it should be in a bench role and/or late inning defensive replacement role.

to me i don't know if adames or devers are wise long term. devers had personality or effort issues in boston, and he's a very one dimensional player. the adames deal has looked like an overpay and it's year one. let alone when these guys start to erode their skills into their 30s and are still under contract. the reason to get devers was clearly to make a move in the standings this year, they sorely needed a bat at the time, and the move didn't move the needle at all. in fact we went in reverse, and boston did better without him. not saying he's a bad player, but the move didn't give the outcome this year we clearly were going for. this will impact our team building as we go forward. our core, the core currently in 4th, is here to stay. all acquired or extended by buster. a lot of our budget for future seasons is already spent. we can add a guy here and there, but everyone knows we don't spend like LA or NY teams.
lol. If it was up to faithful, the giants would be Matt Chapman and a bunch of no names. Chapman just striking out by himself. And that would win the division. Great input.
