Agree but hopefully at the end of the year. I wish he could do it in the middle of this game, but I fear a second mistake of hiring Matt Williams.

I am not sure what that does. Just fire him now and start the search. Get ahead of it.

Until these guys actually show they can produce at the MLB level they remain just prospects. Eldridge is our top guy but he's far from a MVP type at this point. Still working on his fielding and his strikeout rate makes Chapman look like a contact hitter. He's striking out at a 37% rate but 47% for the month of August. 18 SOs with no walks this month. The power is fine but you have to make contact to show it. If he's striking out that much in AAA how's he going to fair in the majors?

I'm not saying he won't improve but it sure looks like he's not close to being ready right now. Ther Giants are smart to resist any pressure to promote him too soon.

Fire Melvin; hire Matt Williams

Team finishes strong and barely misses out on WC spot. Vibes are good to end season.

Do you want to extend Matt williams, who likely has clubhouse support, or do you search for a more experienced Manager then?

Not sure that Williams would be the right guy either. No matter who they hire as manager the players need to step up and take some responsibility for this pathetic display of poor baseball. The manager can help but when players are getting millions to perform they can't just check out on the season like this.

This is an organzational failure right now. Ownership. GM. Manager. Hitting coach. Minor league system development. Scouting. All of thse things are failing right now and the players are failing with it.

Devers. Adames. Chapman. Ramos. All are capable of playing winning baseball. Lee is still developing but has promise. I like what I see from Smith both defensively and with the bat. For whatever reason things just aren't clicking with this group.
Not his fault lol

And Garce, just so we are being totally accurate here....Bailey is 14th in fWAR. fWAR takes into account catcher framing, which majorly boosts his total WAR. But as soon as MLB gets out of the stone ages and starts using automated balls and strikes, Bailey's defensive value will fall off of a cliff.

Catcher framing doesn't boost it THAT dramatically. Lower batting averages have become a new normal in the modern game. Hitting .217 in 2025 isn't the same as hitting .217 in 1995. I just don't see some random mediocre defensive catcher who might hit .248 is going to improve the team over what Bailey provides.

That's what I was talking about Melvin in the nutshell. Nice guy, totally wrong manager for this team. More so, with the comment like that on the given play, he is unwittingly "sabotaging" the team. It had to be completely opposite from him. But he can't help it, that is his personality, his DNA and his approach the entire season. He wasn't a good hire , SD experience should have clearly indicated that. He is not suited for the teams like that, teams that have talent and need the periodic "kick in the butt" while still commanding respect in doing so.

If that is the case, why is Bailey's fWAR so dramatically different than Bailey's bWAR? The only difference from what I know is that fangraphs defensive metrics include pitch framing.

Looking at this angle, I can see why Melvin says it wasnt his fault. I mean....it was his fault that the ball slipped out of his hand. But he was clearly trying to not throw it because of a Christian Koss mental error and it slipped.

How empty were the stands ? I hope people not showing up to watch that garbage , team has completely given up, and that's a reflection of the coach, Melvin should be fired, take Burrell and Bailey too

f**k no. Williams just the stop gap until the offseason regardless unless they some how make the LDS or something crazy

"there's something negative in the air" - Adames

You can't keep defending low IQ baseball from Ramos.
