Its all the same stuff people were saying before this season. "The window is closed, its all over, they lost too many players, no way they make it back anytime soon!"

I do think the talent gap at the WR positions and at backup TE need to be addressed DE also. How many starters did the 49ers have out on offense the other night? Kittle and Burford? I don't count BA he never started this season.

I wonder if it was d.Ryans who made that Saleh defense look good the first time around and is the missing piece now?

The biggest issue is that the 49ers haven't drafted any cornerstone talents since 2020 and are living off of an aging group of players who appear to be reaching their best before date. For context:

2023 Draft:
SF --> Brown (he's going to get cut)
SEA --> Witherspoon, Smith-Njigba, Charbonnet

2024 Draft
SF -->Pearsall (injured), Green (benched), Mustapha (meh, maybe league average safety)
SEA -->Murphy, Knight

2025 Draft
SF --> Williams (star potential, but injured), Collins (rotational guy), West (rotational guy), Stout (has potential)
SEA -->Zabel, Emmanwori

The 2025 draft is decidedly meh, though there is some potential there. A far cry from the production of Zabel and Emmanwori. This team isn't drafting any replacements, and it shows on the field.

The 49ers are getting beat in the player scouting and development areas, and that's on Jon Lynch.

I feel they should draft the most talented player when their pick comes around not just draft to the scheme.

I mean the young talent alone the Rams and Hawks have a huge edge. 49ers are still relying on older players. It's crucial they start drafting better. When was the last 49ers 1st round pick that was impactful? Bosa?

I call BS. We literally won the first game when the team was healthy and we didnt even have our #1 WR who never played all year. 2nd game was close enough if CMC didn't drop the pass that was picked near the goal line. Yes the 3rd game was embarrassing but you're delusional if you think Seattle would beat us if they were missing the same caliber players as we were. Take the 3 best players off that Seattle defense and then field there 4th best linebacker, tell me we don't drop a ton of points on them. Take JSN out of that WR core and see how they do.

Look at their IR list. Not a dang starter is on it. They are a good healthy team who took advantage of a banged up Niner team missing nearly every star player. I can't believe this has to be said to a 49er fan.

Our 2019 defense was excellent, and that was when Saleh was our DC. Both Ryans and Saleh very good.

2019 defense had a DL with Bosa, DeFo, and Armstead. The DL never recovered from the DeFo trade. Kinlaw and Hargrave weren't the answer. CJ West and Alfred Collins might be, but that is still TBD.

Lol the 1st game of the season is so irrelevant. Teams need time to gel and figure everything out. Where in my post did I say Seattle wouldn't struggle if they were not healthy? I didn't. I simply stated Seattle's talent is just simply better than what SF has to offer pretty much everywhere but LB and TE and maybe QB. They have a better OL, better DL, significantly better secondary like worlds apart. The WR room is much better than anything we have, they have a room full of good RBs. Only a homer would think the 49ers have better talent across the board.

That's why I feel they should draft best player available or trade back out of the first round and get more picks. He'll the Rams have got two first rounders this year.

The name that stands out on that list is Emannwori. He is a future All-Pro and only 21 YOS. He is all over the field. When he comes down against the run, it goes no place. He allows MacDonald to do things he could not do without him.

Health, easily the biggest one but whaddaya do?
The 49ers may need to have a couple years where they don't make the playoffs and end up in a position to draft higher. Maybe they can get some more draft capital by trading older players that can help another team. Even then they have to hope that it's a good draft when they get those higher picks. It's harder to project now with players staying longer in college because of the transfer portal and NIL money.

We've had a few of those years sprinkled in. We torpedoed one of those drafts with Trey Lance.
