The 49ers may need to have a couple years where they don't make the playoffs and end up in a position to draft higher. Maybe they can get some more draft capital by trading older players that can help another team. Even then they have to hope that it's a good draft when they get those higher picks. It's harder to project now with players staying longer in college because of the transfer portal and NIL money.

We've had a few of those years sprinkled in. We torpedoed one of those drafts with Trey Lance.

Correct.

The Trey Lance fiasco cost us dearly.

That was a poor draft in general because of the Covid year. Many players took the year off and teams played partial schedules. The fact is if you draft late in each round eventually it will catch up to you. Sure you can still find good players later but the probability drops the later you pick. How may times have you been watching the drafdt and hoping a player is ther when the Niner spick only to see another team take him a few picks ahead of them. Then another one you want gets grabbed just before the Niners turn. It happens because other teams want the same players.

It caught up to the Patriots. The Chiefs are seeing it now. So are the Niners.
This Niners team still had a good passing offense even with Purdy missing several games and WRs and Kittle having injury problems all year. They have 4 major issues that need to get fixed next year.

1. They need to get the running game going again. Whether tha means an upgrade in the O line or another good back it has to change.

2. They need to fix the pass rush. Obviously getting Bosa back will help. Williams will be back and Collins and West will have a year under their belt but is it enough? Thye need another good edge rusher with speed. Last in sacks and 30th in presasures isn't going to get you to the SB.

3. Turnovers. They just aren't getting any. Forced fumbles are lacking and INTs are virtually non existent. Whether it's scheme or an upgrade in personnel it has to change.

4. They need to get younger and faster. Especially on defense.

Some of this needs to be addressed at the coaching level and some during the draft.

They need to get younger and faster on OFFENSE.
I feel whoever is running the draft needed to be changed.
in 2017 Needing a QB not ever scouting the QBs in the draft and then drafting Solomon Thomas and Reuben Foster.
Trading Buckner then drafting Kinlaw was this a salary dump Bad move ether way.
Trading 3 first round picks to move up to pick 3 while having no idea who you want to draft at pick 3. Then rumor has it Kyle wanted Mac Jones at pick 3. Mac Jones was drafted at pick 15. They didn't need to trade up. They where lucky with finding Purdy with last pick in the draft.
Consistently Drafting player 1 or 2 round early.
Drafting a Kicker in the third round. Who was cut 2 year later.
all of these are bad bad move and whoever made them I think needs to be changed.
I think that is Kyle . No I do not want Kyle fire as coach. Yes if he is running the draft I would like to have someone from outside the organization come in and run the draft like a traditional GM. Would Kyle like that No. Would Kyle say he wants out, Maybe? They need to make the move now so if Kyle retires or just want to of his contract the new GM will have time to find a coach.

Do you mean at RB and WR? They have speed at WR but those guys are always hurting. CMC is still one of the most productive backs in the NFL. They drafted James who was hurt much of the year. They have a speedy back in Guerendo. I'm not as hung up on speed at WR as some are. I prefer guys like Nakua and JSN that have good hands and can always find ways to get open. I'm not against speed if they're good but most of the really fast guys aren't great receivers.

Nakua is a slower guy at 4.57 but has incredible agility and athleticism. JSN was a 4.4 guy.

1. The scrubs at WR and TE were a big reason the run sucked this season. The OL needs big upgrades as well, but Kyle's run scheme needs almost flawless execution from the skill players to work well.
2. DT should be a bigger priority than DE to address pass rush. With Bosa, Williams, and Huff we have our primary DE rotation. Neither Collins or West is a game wrecker on the interior.

We could even take a pass rush specialist who kicks Williams inside on passing downs. Honestly any impactful DL regardless of position is what we need.

This :)
I think ownership is one of the largest weakness. He completely wasted a Robert Saleh year and decided to punt on the season. It was tough to believe in this team when ownership didn't.

Somehow you keep topping your previous posts. Well done
Glory Hole Parties
Almost zero qb adjustments at the line.
Lack of sandlot improv play designs in the pass game.
Zero uptempo no huddle drives.
Speed.
