Keeping Mac Jones as a Backup

I believe we should be looking to package Mac and a pick for a top tier player. We have a proven commodity and should get one in return. Otherwise demand a 1st or two seconds with the thought that no one will pay that and we keep him.

Plus comp picks aren't guaranteed depending on who we sign
Definitely should trade Mac if the get a 2nd or better

Mac will be worth nothing one year from now. Of course you use him as bait now while you can.

Trading Mac helps address an issue. Let's be honest if Purdy gets injured they aren't winning a Super Bowl anyway. A 2nd round pick is more important than a backup QB you pray never has to play for this team. Definitely when he is gone in 27 anyway
Question is does this team trust that Purdy can stay healthy because he's been hurt a lot in his short career here and plays an incredibly aggressive style of football for a smaller guy. Otherwise they need a dependable and proven #2.
Agreed.

Kyle said today Mac would be back next season as we don't get rid of good players.
Yes! That is spot on. Only trade him if someone gives you a spectacular deal. He is too important to this organization and he is under contract in 2026 so it's not up to Mac based on what he agreed to with the 49ers.

If someone gives a first rounder to the Niners, yeah trade Mac Jones. If not keep him.
I don't want the Niners in 2026 to be the 2025 Bengals or the 2018 and 2020 Niners.
Mac Jones helped a lot the team this season.

Yeah, I am good with trading him and a pick for a good player or just picks. Shany will just bring in someone to compete vs Rourke for the backup role.

Haven't watched the press conference, but sounds like Kyle/Lynch said the correct things about Mac, at least.
If we trade Mac, it's gotta be for an offer that blows us away. Their answers in the press conference were basically telling the whole league that.

Pelissero reported 49ers will accept no less than a 2nd round pick for jones. Sounds fair in that another team gets an immediate starting QB. Would be great if we can get a first round pick.

Cleveland and Jets both have 2 1st round picks. Very very unlikely they can get a 1st. But could they get an early 2nd for Mac or package Mac + 27 to move up to 16 (Jets) + additional pick (very unlikely)
Jets own 2, 16, 33, and 44
Browns own 6, 24, and 39

Could very likely come down to the highest bidder. The QB is the most important position that can make or break a team and season.
