Keeping Mac Jones as a Backup

He's exactly the kind of player we want in the backup spot. A high talent disappointment who has flashed for stretches. He's shown he can play well… similar to Darnold and Jones.

I don't think the Texans would make that deal in any case.

Mac for Stroud and a 2nd. Let Shanny fix Stroud and trade him later for a 2nd or 3rd. . Win win for Houston and the 49ers.

So what. We get a 2nd. Stroud is just an add on. I guarantee it that you thought Darnold and Jones were trash too and Shanny fixed them. Id do it in a heartbeat unless another team offered more.
If Texans would want to get rid of Stroud, they should just not pick up his fifth year option. But they will pick it up

Lol first of all, I loved Mac coming out of college. I would have picked him over Lance. Accurate and smooth in a phone booth.

Stroud is incapable of being fixed. He is literally the exact opposite of what Kyle looks for in a QB. Inaccurate and slow to process. I'd eat my hat if we traded for him. It would make no sense whatsoever.

I also wanted Jones.

Stroud is an accurate passer who's willing to deliver from the pocket. He makes poor decisions which can be helped by the structure of our offense. He had success in it as a rookie.

It's fine if you disagree and wouldn't want him, but the craziest part of the suggestion was that we could get him and a second for Mac Jones, not that we wouldn't be willing to do it.

I see Stroud's issues as far more than making poor decisions. But let's agree to disagree there. I do think we could get a second for Mac. Adding Stroud—regardless of what I think of him—does take the trade out of the realm of possibility.
As I've said a couple of times, what happens with Jones depends almost completely on what the team feels it has in Rourke. If he can translate his college game into the NFL, he could be an ideal back-up. I would be fine with Jones sticking around for a second year, but if the team can get decent compensation for him, I think they have to seriously consider it.

I love Mac and I'd be happy to have him next year, we saw first hand how important a quality backup is. If we are offered a top 50 pick, I'd say you'd have to take it, considering our roster. Not sure if we have the luxury of passing that up. you could package that pick with our first and move up to grab a premier receiver
both of the above 2 posts...

I don't think there is a premier WR in this class, I'd be tempted to flip it for a first next year and use it to Julio Jones trade our way to Jeremiah Smith.

Move to the next one, QB's will sign with Kyle for the chance to resurrect their careers. Zach Wilson makes loads of sense to be the next one.

Kyle wont be able to fix zach. Some players just suck. You need to accept it. Coaching can help but it cant fix everything

Zach has an incredible arm....that's it. Enough to succeed at BYU....not enough for the NFL.

Yup. Arm means s**t in the nfl. If you have good enough arm thats good enough. People always cling on to zach cuz let's face it. He has the look of a qb1. And his pro day throwing in shorts he was incredible. Thats it. People need to let it go. Some dudes just arent real football players. They arent gamers. Dude I have friends that are jets fans STILL cling on to Zach. Sean payton couldn't fix him. Mike mcdaniel couldn't fix him. Kyle isnt going to fix him. He doesnt have it.

Similar things were said about Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Also it doesn't actually matter, Rourke would do just fine as a backup if he continued to suck, if he doesn't that's more draft capital. We need to take advantage of Darnold and Mac's reclamation projects.
