What's silly is not understanding the protocol of being put on PUP. He has to be on the list right now because he was injured in off season programs and in order for him to come in early to rehab he has to be on the list until they actually go on the field on Wednesday.

he can be taken off the list at any point as of Wednesday, much like some of the other players currently on the list…but of course fans are gonna get over dramatic about it

I would just ask why he still has to rehab an injury they said was minor and should see him back for camp no problem.

However we all know 49ers are terrible with injuries and reporting of them.

Just gonna hope for promising updates on all of these injuries and praying/hoping we have a season where we avoid critical and long term injuries.

Has there ever been a season where no critical or long term injuries happened?

We were very close in 2023…unfortunately couldn't just get out of that SB without injuries to Dre and Feliciano. Either one stays healthy and we win the SB imo.

2012 we were incredibly healthy as well though some key injuries led to Smith bros not playing up to their levels.
Agree with you on 2023 being close to injury free. Look And the SB injury to Dre really hurt because he took Kelsey off his game and was in his head, that was fun to watch and it's going to be hard to replace him. Feliciano also hurt in our passing game. But that punt turnover is what gave KC life because up to that point the Chiefs couldn't get past the 50yd line. Anyway I hope the team can get through this season without too many injuries.

I'm as argumentative as the next man, but TC is very close and we just should wait and see. If Pearsall isn't taken off the PUP in the first couple of weeks of TC, then we will have something concrete to talk about and we will know it was not merely a formal motion.

If he is taken off PUP and is practicing, well the whole thing is moot.

It's a little odd that Pearsall isn't the only "surpise" addition to the PUP/NFI list, he's just the only one getting any noise about it.

I'm more interested in the rookies than Pearsall at the moment.
I hope he isn't out for long. Camp will really help him improve.
Going to be on PUP to start practices. Hope was he was activated for Day 1. He probably suffered a setback since the OTAs.

It's really common for muscle strains to test how he responds after some training work to see if he really is 100%. Some of this stuff is what bugs me about the CBA. They made it so limited in what time players are allowed to be at the facility and spending time with coaches/trainers. They won't allow it because the PA doesn't trust the players to be adult enough to opt out of extra training/practice if the team asks them. But it also means players who need more help don't get it.
Need dude to be ready to go and spend more time on the field. It's early … I am hoping this isn't a trend with this guy.

I totally understand how muscle strains work. I am a physician. But still, you would think he has access to a football field and personal trainers to determine if he's ready to practice or not. Also, this goes against what Shanahan said 6 weeks ago at OTA.

But I understand the caution. Hamstrings can be tricky. You may feel completely healthy and able to run but then any sudden movement can reaggravate it. As long as he doesn't miss too much on field time, this should be a footnote.

The CBA severely restricts player access to trainers away from VERY limited team events. I'm fairly sure physicals cannot be done until after training camp starts, training and PT has to wait until after the physical.

It's all about conditioning more than the injury or a setback.

Yes. And the team, now knowing it's a problem for him, are going to make sure he's ready BEFORE they let him on the practice field. A lesson they have now learned about Cowing too.
