You might wanna go ahead and get rid of that thought now. Not happening

How long you been watching the NFL? You do know that injuries happen and trades for QBs happens all the time because of that right? Don't be so sure of that comment bro cause I'd bet we would be one of the first teams getting a call if someone's starting QB goes down before the season. To answer the question, I feel the same as this

It wouldn't surprise me if we end up starting Lance in week 1. If Jimmy does end up starting and comes out like he did against the Cardinals last year, it won't be long before the switch is made. If Jimmy plays well enough to hold him off all year, then that's only a good thing for us. I just hope Shanahan approaches it as an open competition, at least in TC.

I think it's a long shot they trade Jimmy, they won't get much, plus we're a super bowl caliber team, we need Jimmy, Lance needs to sit, but they shoul create plays just for him. As Jimmy's contract, I don't think many, if any can fit his salary under their cap. Only the Jags have room after signing their picks, and they don't need a QB. Denver might if they redid some deals but as I have said I'd rather keep him and make SB run.

Jimmy's last injury was directly related to protection.

You're right and that line wasn't even that good in pass pro. Below average. We had a second string center for almost half of the year and the guard play wasn't good as well as the interior pass protection as a whole.

8 games.
With improved interior OL pass protection, Jimmy will be fine. Trey shouldn't start at all this season.

I'm not getting my hopes up Jimmy's shaky durability will give us 17 starts. The jury is also still out on the right side of our offensive line.
If this doesn't wake up a fire in Jimmy, I don't know what will......

lol Jimmy had a fantastic 2019, then got injured early because of a crappy OL and it ruined his 2020 season. Where is this narrative that he somehow sucks and needed a fire lit underneath him coming from?

The jury is still out on the entire line - with the exception of Williams, we don't know how this line is going to gel. Just projecting - it should be much improved from last year, hopefully.

I do agree with this for the most part but my point was mainly that anything can happen. When starting QBs go down before or early in the season, teams tend to panic and a restructuring of a deal as part of the trade can happen if salary cap of other teams is your reasoning for it not being able to happen. There's always ways to make things happen IMO. Look no further than the deal made for Bridgwater. If something were to happen and a team offered up a first round pick or possibly even a 2 or multiple day 2 picks or something, no doubt in my mind SF takes it. We've "needed" Jimmy since he got here and a huge reason for the big trade and getting Lance in is because he wasn't available. What makes this season any different in that department? He's proven to be unreliable more than he has reliable and if he indeed did get hurt again this year I don't think we'd get anything for him and would just cut him eventually.

Right now he's a bridge QB which is where you don't want to be as a starting QB. There should be some fire brewing as a competitor.

Yeah, win or lose - Jimmy won't be back next year. Might as well ball out - as he auditions for his next team.

Keep Jimmy. We are making a run with a superbowl caliber roster. We don't want to waste a year on growing pains when we can win this year. Jimmy will respond, he knows he is playing for another shot with some other team. Injuries happen but we upgraded the line so atleast he should have some time to throw this year. Jimmy is badass when he has some time to throw and Lance has 17 games under his belt from a weak division, has to learn a very complex new offense and hasn't played for a year. Jimmy gives us the best shot to win
