49ers plan to sign veteran WRs J.J. Nelson and Tavon Austin, pending physicals, per league source. Added depth in an area in which Deebo Samuel is likely to miss the start of the season.

It's so easy to see the players ShanaLynch like for specific positions or specific roles now. After 4 years you know exactly what they are looking at for each position.

I think this is more than for depth. They need a vet presence in that young WR group especially for Aiyuk. Having Sanders did wonders for Deebo. Hopefully, Austin can do the same for Aiyuk.

Agreed AND a returner. Richie is probably done and Taylor is coming off a foot to start. Pettis has no desire to be a returner at the NFL level. Veteran, deep speed to work in with Aiyuk at the X and returner is an important role for Kyle.
