Just a thought, I'm thinking instead of signing dlinemen to one year prove it deals. We should sign them for two years since they'll still be cheap. We've been grooming unknown commodity to known ones. This way, if they play great first year, we can trade them for picks on second year instead of losing them to FA.

And why would any player (agent) agree to do that?

Because end of the day, they can become good players being with the Niners or stay mediocre with another team. Being good, can get you paid.

Honeself I thought 2 year was the way to go fot guys like Willis and Key. They will still be young enough to get a longterm 3rd contract and with 3 years of productivity thry can cash out far larger than what they would get now. Kerry Hyder flaming out and their lack of productivity every other season of their career didn't help much. A fair 2 year deal for both and they likely depart for greener pastures in 2024 for huge dollars.

I'll also add the last thing you wanna do is flame out as soon as you are paid north of 3 million. History says both will outside of this system.

I'm hoping Arden Key stays. We shall see.

They should be able to resign most of the depth. Key and Jones might have played themselves out of the 49ers price range. They need to pay Bosa so Key/Jones this year and Kinlaw next year might be guys they cannot keep. I doubt they exercise Kinlaw's 5th year given his injury history. Bottom line is could see early picks spent on DE and DT this year.

Yup, and looks like keeping Ebukam, Key, and Omenihu would be one of the goals of the organization. Arden Key is the UFA along with DJ JOnes that I'm really hoping they can re-sign for a much longer contract.

I highly doubt Ebukam is back, 8.5 mil cap hit. We've shown plenty of times that we can get solid production out of DL for cheap.

"I don't want to play in Kocurek's wide 9" - said no edge rusher ever. This is the system to play in if you want to get after the QB and get paid.

I feel like they will let Key walk and let Omenihu take over that role.

I think you do your best to fight to keep Arden Key. I think if he did what he did in the last half of the season, in the first half too - I think Arden would be pretty close to 10+ sacks. So you do your best to inflate his cap numbers for the other guy or sign him. I'm expecting maybe Seaddeall might want to give him a contract.
