Speculation continues to surround the future of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones, who remains under contract through the 2026 NFL season. After stepping in for injured starter Brock Purdy in 2025, Jones delivered an impressive stretch that likely caught the attention of quarterback-needy teams around the league.
Still, the 49ers have maintained that Jones is firmly in their plans for the upcoming season.
While San Francisco is not completely shutting the door on trade discussions, general manager John Lynch made it clear that any potential deal would require a substantial return.
"He's really good for us, and we value that," Lynch said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, via ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "And so, somebody would have to come with something fairly strong for us to consider (trading him). And then, I don't know what we do.
"Obviously, there's always something that would make you (do it), but I think we're a better team with him on it, and we just like having him around."

Jones started eight games for the 49ers during the 2025 season, throwing for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing a career-best 69.6% of his passes. His steady play increased his value and may have rejuvenated the career of the former first-round draft pick.
For now, though, the 49ers appear comfortable keeping Jones in the quarterback room behind Purdy, unless a team makes an offer too strong to ignore.
