I fully agree OTC. I'll be watching Johnson at C again closely. Garnett absolutely has to be the option now. Toran scares the hell out of me.

One never likes to look into a players future, but after a time, spanning two seasons, and the player can't seem to heal...well, then you have to bite the bullet and say, "bad break"...and move on. Not saying it yet, but if he can't go, there has to be a limit on what constitutes being careful, cautious and foolhardy.

I know it's still TBD at WR since we haven't seen Hurd in the regular season yet. I also am a believer in Pettis and Deebo. So I'll leave them off this list, but I think the areas where we could add another star talent are:

1. S - Moore and Tartt are playing solid, but the latter has an injury history and the former could use some competition.
2. OG/C - The depth here is so-so, and the starters are solid but not necessarily spectacular.
3. OT - We need an OT of the future. Skule will improve but no promises on Coleman's effectiveness coming off a major injury.
4. CB - Depth is OK, but Sherman is getting older and we should give ourselves options in case anyone falters.
5. DE - You can never have too many star pass rushers.

I don't like thinking about losing about half of the DL this offseason. They've been the lifeblood of this season, and a large part of their effectiveness has been the depth.

In this passing league, pass rusher checks that box. Ford's uncertain long-term health makes this a priority, though likely next year.

Safety is a close second.

A key feature of every really good team is to have no glaring weakness. If you start there, add a couple of stars on offense and defense, you have a playoff contender. Right now, the 49ers have no glaring weakness. When healthy, every starting member on both offense and defense is "average" or better...and the team is 3-0.

Replacing Staley is important but until we see if Skule can maintain his Steeler play, that remains a question mark. As it stands now, I assume we address that with a late first round pick. Skule could switch that pick to a safety.

I want to see what Wood can do with the current CBs. Spoon's turnaround makes me think we may be OK with Mosely, but Uncle Sherm may turn Grampa Sherm on us before we can react, IDK.

Also my list of players I'd keep for 2020. Total of 44 players, with very few UFAs Blair and AA, RFA Breida, ERFAs Mullens, Moseley, Wilson, Brunskill, Dwelley, and I outlined in the above article that we can afford to extend DeFo, Kittle, Juice, Spoon, Sherm, and extend AA and Blair, while having money for FAs and the Draft. I hope this puts to rest the trade talks, and people being calm about 2020, we're fine cap wise as long as we stick with our roster.
