Jimmy G kinda sped up the rebuild, especially in the eyes of fans. They're not ready to kick ass in the playoffs. Imo they're a yr away from really doing some damage, they need a couple more pieces.
People gotta lower their expectations just a little...and all the negative nancy need to calm down as well. This team is gonna be competitive every Sunday and they will put pts in the board...we as fans haven't had that in a while.
Great post, NY.... I would add to what you stated about the youth of the team that several of the penalties called on the team this preseason have been bad calls...the one on Mostert, a few of the holding calls, a couple of the new helmet hit calls, etc. Also, let us not forget that in the preseason, coaches are very conservative (both on offense and defense) and don't want to show too much. Also, the players themselves, if they have secured a roster spot, may be playing at 80-85 % so as to avoid injury No player wants to go on IR for the year as a result of an injury in a preseason game. (Foster needs to learn this).
As far as concerns are concerned,
, I would share that the outside LB group in general looks average at best. When a team trades its starting OLB 2 weeks before the season starts, that should tell you something. Look for the team to watch the waiver wire closely for OLBs. I'm less concerned about the secondary, despite its overall youth. There is some good talent back there and the coaching seems first rate. I'm also encouraged by the overall play of the OL. Let us also not forget that it takes time for an OL to gel and there are 3 new starters on the line this year.
Finally, the failure of the pass rushers to wrap up and actually sack the QB is a concern. It seems that many players are worried about getting flags for hitting a QB too hard, too high, too low, etc. You guys get the picture. Frankly, I'm more concerned about the league and the officiating than I am about our team. IMHO, the league should take all of the officials off the field and put them in the booth. It is really hard to see the infractions from ground level because of all of the bodies obstructing the views. Also, replays now are done in 10-15 seconds so it would be easy to make calls (or fix bad calls) faster. Just my 2 cents.
