9ers had Ted Ginn and he was used for a whopping one catch in 2012. Randy Moss complained about just being used as a decoy. The passing offense was just awful speed or not.
For context look at what Greg Roman had in 2015. LeSean McCoy Sammy Watkins Robert Woods Marquise Goodwin Chris Hogan Charles Clay.
28th in passing offense. 19th on 3rd down. 24th in red zone.
What does it require to make the offense work skill wise then?

That's insane given all this team endured this year.
And the #1 team is just 40 yards more a game. This offense should easily be top 5 next year barring injuries.
Wow. This is so hard to fathom as bad as we played & 3-n-outs we had in quite a few games this season early

Yeah, I'm as surprised as you are. Looks like Shanahan is the real deal as an offensive wizard.

lol Kyle got us into the top 10 in offense. And that's with injuries and hodgepodge of players in and out of the line up. Having Jimmy helps certainly, but Kyle still a Jedi Master OC with or without Jimmy.

I also find it interesting that Jimmy picked up this offense faster than Matt Ryan did.

Gaupo has gotten a lot of credit, which is due, but I give a ton of credit to KS. The media is qb crazy but I dont think enough credit has gone to KS for this turn around.
The team stayed together through 9 losses. Dudes have been open all season and now with a real qb you can see how beautiful his offense is. He's no fluke and he might even be getting better.
Its also cool how open KS is during press conferences. I feel like I learn a lot from him when he talks football but he doesnt give anything super important away at the same time.
Its been a tale of two seasons and he's navigated both pretty well imo. Cant wait till March

I still don't think jaguars d is near as good as Seattle's d was...
And add on to that Seattle's homefield advantage..
Not even close... I don't care what the rankings show

We couldn't score on them at the Stick either most of the time either.
It's very close actually. Seattle never had anything resembling a Malik Jackson at DT.

I agree with everything you said, particularly the bolded part. That a young rookie HC could hold the team together losing so many games to start, and get them playing hard every week, is remarkable. I also agree that his pressers with the media are refreshing and informative. He has the potential to coach here for a long, long time.

I think Kyle had to first convince Ryan to learn more than what he was used to doing through the years.

Kyle needs to do better getting the running game going. Been inconsistent. Injuries to the OLine early is part of the problem. Hopefully going into year 2.

Kyle has tried a lot of things with our run game, he clearly knows his stuff, but has had to deviate from outside zone, because neither Guard or the RT could consistently get to their spots. He's mixed some inside zone, but our Centre can't move anyone, he's now encorporating jet sweeps and counters.
As soon as the line is fixed the running game will be just as good as the passing.
We will be the #1 offense in the league within two years, book it.

Good article.

On the surface, there's no reason for Jacksonville's juggernaut defense to give up 37 points to an offense featuring middling skill talent like George Kittle, Trent Taylor, and Marquise Goodwin.
Shanahan, however, took Jacksonville defensive coordinator Todd Wash to the woodshed throughout the entire game. Shanahan stretched the field vertically and horizontally with his play-action passing attack, and Wash never had an answer for him.
Do the Jaguars have the coaching staff to maintain a postseason run? A closer look at the 49ers' obliteration of the Jaguars' defense shows some cause for concern.
