So basically no one is gonna claim him.

All the Browns and OBJ did was eliminate the final 2 yrs, whoever claims him will have to pay him $7.25M for the remainder of the season, I doubt he gets claimed now. If the contract voids, the team who gets him won't be eligible for a comp pick, as players with contracts that void or have options declined don't count against the comp pick formula, same way players cut don't count.

I mean he had no GTD cash left so they could have cut him whenever after the season was done.

All the browns did was cut him early lol. Thanks.

so if no one claims him they're on the hooks for that $7M, correct?

No way they're throwing down $7M for WR right now. If they wanted him that bad they could have given up a 2023 6th rd pick and avoided the waiver.

he's not gonna get claimed and pick where he wants to go. Raiders

I think you underestimate how often worst case scenarios happen to our team

My understanding (could be wrong) is that the Browns have salary conversion rights meaning they can convert salary to signing bonus. The more money converted the less salary owed. I guess they feared no one would pick him up and they would be on the hook the full amount. Now it is more likely someone does pick him up as the Browns are essentially lowering the cost for another team to do so. I believe the Browns can do this unilaterally and OBJ is getting paid the same amount, it's just a matter of pay being considered bonus rather than salary.

Check JosinaAnderson she has info on her twitter along these lines.

Nope that didn't end up happening…they just got rid of his last two yrs of his deal (which weren't GTD anyway).

they didn't do anything outside of cutting him earlier then they were gonna. No one is gonna cough up $7M for a waiver claim in week 9. He will end up choosing where he wants to go for the rest of the yr.

I mean why not just give up a nothing pick if you were gonna take on his contract anyway? That way you don't have to see if he falls to you in the waiver?

no team is gonna let Cleveland not have to pay OBJ. They're not gonna give someone $7M if they don't think he wants to be there either.

We all know how this ends. Niners lose out on him, he balls out on some other team, and ShannyLynch talk about how they tried to get him.

Yea I know, this has been the ongoing stories through the years, seems like the rams have the most balls in the division
I heard that the Browns were looking for trade compensation similar to Julio and DHop. If true, they are stupid.
I still think he'll end up In BALTIMORE with Lamar.

Ozzie retired after 2018, Eric DeCosta is their GM now.
OBJ to the Raiders makes sense after the Ruggs disaster.
