49ers coach Kyle Shanahan on Odell Beckham Jr.: 'Everyone's a big fan'

Of course if they really wanted him, they could have given up a late draft pick and reworked his contract first. Get creative.

Yeah, and if any team wanted to get him Tuesday, they could have right? But they didn't, none of the 31 teams traded for him. Enough BS, plus who's to say he'd be willing to sign a team friendly deal, that $15M in 2022 is gonna cripple the cap.

He already reworked his contract just so he'll be attractive. IF the 9ers really wanted him, I'm sure the Browns FO would have been willing to take something over nothing. Now they're paying for it too. Literally (this year).

I'm just saying IF this FO really wanted him, it wouldn't have been too difficult to secure ESPECIALLY because of your original point: "...none of the 31 teams traded for him."

That said, I'd rather have MeSean Jackson because of his particular skill set and price.

Uh well, I doubt any team was gonna trade for him, the 49ers would have needed to clear cap room, since the Browns ate money to cut him, I think that's why no team was gonna deal for him, he was owed $7.25M after this week, or $8.05M if dealt Tuesday, and even if CLE was willing to eat money to deal him, which they probably should have, if they didn't offer, then it would have taken day 2 picks to get him, which would be a hard pass for me.

Hence the rework and trade. He's costing what right now? $1M this year because the Browns are paying $9M?

Plus he's always wanted to come here.

Let's stop acting like we're completely hamstrung here while weekly and yearly, seeing teams CONSTANTLY get creative with talent acquisition.

The answer to everything is not, "We can't afford it..."

Plus this would be a blip on the radar in creativity compared to those kinds of deals.

I'm simply saying IF they were actually serious about acquiring him (they probably aren't and that's perfectly fine) they could have secured him with a late pick and a restructure instead of risking to to a release and the pecking order.

Jimmy doesn't have the arm and OBJ doesn't have the legs. This just might work!

Did you watch the video his dad put up??? Clearly not…. Better hope Deebo has the legs.. we know how his hammy goes…. And, if Jimmy's missing wide open receivers now (see int play when he force the ball to Deebo). Then that probably would have made the highlight reel too😂

Also just because he has no GTD money left doesn't mean, if injured, and cut, he can file a grievance against the team, since you can't cut a player whose injured, and get the money. Plus $15M in 2022 will cripple our cap, plus I thought we sucked, so why even bring in OBJ? I say pass on him, injury prone too, something people b***h about whenever we bring someone in who has those concerns, but if it's a big name(Gilmore, Von, OBJ) it's ok? WTF?

I think people just have the poster of that one catch he made on the bedroom wall and envision every play being that. They honestly disregard 5 straight years of bad numbers, injuries, clownish behavior. Can you think of one good game or great play he's had in 5 years? I can't lol. Add to it his pops stabbing his teammates in the back publicly, yikes.

@AB81. Who on our team isn't injury prone? At least it's an upgrade to the position room. 9ers fans have been overly concerned in my opinion with the (cap hell) Donahue pounded in us years back to cover up he was not a good GM. That attitude has made some fans ok with not making bold moves to better the team. And what exactly have we won with all this bargain basement shopping we've been doing??? Again I'll wait..

plus we have no first round picks to try and sign the next couple of years so there. That should make you feel better.

Who in the NFL isn't injury prone, cause guess what, everyone is prone to getting hurt, but for people who moan about a player being hurt or signing a guy with injury issues in the past, wanting big names cause they're big names but also injury prone, that's hilarious.

As for bargain basement, I'd rather find under the radar FAs than go out on a spending spree like NE did this offseason, or the Eagles in the past, the Jags, the Giants, the Jets, the WFT, and more, did they win anything? That Eagles dream team? Yeah nothing, just wasted money.

Also, it's not as if they're not spending money, they're among the highest spending teams each year, they just gave in the last 2 years, $15M a yr to Kittle, $23.03M a yr to Trent, $19.05M a yr to Warner, $17M a yr to Armstead(Didn't agree with the amount), $9.5M a yr to Ward, before that, $9.05M a yr to Richburg(Good signing, injuries ended his career), $7.5M a yr to McKinnon(Bad signing), $14M a yr to Kwon(Not bad signing, key guy in our run in 2019), $9.05M, up to $13.05M to Sherman, $27.5M a yr to Garoppolo, they gave Juice $5.25M a yr in 2017, and then $5.4M in 2021, $4.95M a yr to Mack, $5.5M a yr to Laken in 2018. I could go on and on over the years of the 49ers under the York's spending money, lot's of it, for FAs or retaining their own, and they'll be giving Bosa $30M a yr next year, Deebo likely $15M a yr, $12M a yr for Dre, I mean, you can only afford so many players before you get back into cap hell.

For 2022, they're already set to be $9.705M over the 2022 cap, add in OBJ's $15M, that's $24.705M over the 2022 cap, you cut Jimmy, you save $24.845M, so that gives you just $140K in cap room.

See highlighted so a fail is better than a try is what I'm reading

Haha. This is true. This team isn't allowed to have two healthy receivers for two weeks in a row so we better have 3 deep at X, Y and Z! Bring him in.

This… read my previous post about Donahue….

Can they afford him this year, yes, in 2022 and beyond, No, I don't see it being feasible.

That's all I was saying. As part of the restructure, it would include a year 2 rework too.

He's in a position where nobody wanted him. Literally.

So now he AND the Browns lost out on something. No 6th rounder for the Browns and no team he liked a ton (us) to play for. Dude might end up in Jacksonville now. LOL

Rework as in done CLE? I doubt OBJ had them alter his 2022 year, they're not allowed to touch future year, just current year, teams can redo any deal they want, with the right contract language, player has to sign it of course, but when it comes to future years, OBJ has to agree to lower the 2022 base salary, and again I doubt OBJ would end up taking less money in 2022, just because he just got a new signing bonus, he's a player, he's not going to be dumb, and lower his salary in 2022.

Lynch isn't getting fired, people need to get that out of their head, Lynch has done a good job as GM, and yeah I know, everyone is gonna say this guy was a bust, bad signing, etc.... He just got an extension as did Kyle, they're not letting either go.
