So I'm in the camp of don't draft a top QB for a team that's mid SB window. If we're staring over at QB, don't comply to Trent Williams price and essentially look at letting go any player who's close to or over 30. For me it makes no sense to rebuild at QB and keep players like Juice, Ward, etc. Don't sell fans that the team is even close to the playoffs and just be honest about another losing season. Draft a CB high and higher picks for OL and Edge with depth at WR. Focus cap space on resigning Warner and future Bosa. Deebo will be cheap cause injury prone and size/speed ratio.

49ers need to either fully go with Jimmy and the team they need to build around him OR start over at QB and all the losses that comes with that.

Can we get lucky if a player drops? Yes but that still has nothing to do with the team that needs to be built around the starter.

You make some good points here. It almost seems like they are trying to keep the team together even when they know some key players are going to be leaving if they stay with Jimmy. If they aren't willing to make a bold move and get another QB then they really need to be aggressive and build a wall around Jimmy because if he gets hurt again next year, that's the end for him. If they lose Williams because they keep Jimmy and can't afford Trent then Jimmy is more vulnerable. I hate trading away draft picks but at the same time you never really know what those picks will bring. Collecting a lot of 1st and 2nd round picks is great for bad teams like the Lions or like the Dolhins and Jets. They need them to build since they are basically starting from scratch.

I get the idea Stafford improves us next year but that's a big if since our o-line sucks. And it hurts us right away too because of the cap and lost draft capital.

We have significant weaknesses in a strong division. I just don't see the benefit of mortgaging the entire roster for like 5 years on stafford (or Watson tbh)

As I said this was a good non- move and if anything we had a division rival pay over the top. Even it makes sense for them I think the rams are trending down regardless. They are like 30mill over the cap lol.
I count many Rams fans as friends. I haven't crossed paths with one of them yet who is happy with this trade. Most are upset and believe it will backfire.

Also keep in mind that Shanahan was hired by Jed York first and HE brought in John Lynch. This means Shanahan retains some control over personnel decisions. I don't think the 49ers were ever really that interested in acquiring Stafford, but played the interest game to drive up the price.

Besides, the 49ers need linemen, not skill players. Expect them to address the offensive line positions in the upcoming draft.

This does not mean signing Trent Williams to some ridiculous, bloated contract. Lynch and Shanahan can find a much cheaper and better alternative in the upcoming draft.

False. It was reported by Benjamin Allbright that they were never really in play. Sorry. Like this.

Entertaining with the right price is different than being real players in negotiations.

I think i will take John Lynch over Benjamin Allbright.

Allbright got no reason to lie. Lynch does.

Sure. It's always easy to find an all pro tackle in the draft. Meanwhile, Jimmy gets hurt again while the new tackle is learning to play in the NFL. So then they are forced to find a QB anyway.

There´s some people who weirdly think that Lynch is alone on the decision process. It´s Shanahan the boss.
He´s the one that decides at the end of the day.
If he wanted that badly Stafford, they would probably have put two first rounders on the table.
Well Detroit didn´t want Carolina top 10 apparently so I don´t know what would happen anyway in that case.^^

Waking up now and I just can't believe these guys didn't get Matthew Stafford.

How dumb do you have to be as an organization not to make that trade? Total lack of self-awareness. The Rams moved on from a guy who they spent multiple 1st round picks on and drafted themselves! And yet Shanahan is insistent keeping an almost 30 year old Patriots reject QB who is made of glass and shrinks like Costanza's pants under pressure.

I get not selling the farm on Watson and this FO should have realized the situation they were in ever since their names were floating around the media about being a landing spot for Watson. They knew right away no way in hell they'd trade 3-4 1sts for Watson. Anyone good at this game would have snatched Stafford just on those merits alone much less the obvious indisputable fact that Stafford is worth 2 1st round picks on this win-now team!

I've always hated Lynch and I've always hated Shanahan's choices at QB. Please both of ya'll go now
